First off, I'm not one to write a review much less a bad review. So this is very sad and disheartening to me. As you know, Freud products are suppose to be the top of the line and so far, they have been. Supposedly you get what you pay for. Which is why I tend to buy Freud products only. For the most part, I sing their praises. However not so with these Tongue and Grove bits (Freud 99-036: 1-3/4" (Dia.) Adjustable Tongue & Groove Bit Set).Lately I have been making Cherry wood Charcuterie boards. I was using a Crapsman biscuit joiner that was my grandfather that he bought some time in the mid 80's. The accuracy is just not there anymore. So I decided that I would just use this Tongue and Grove bit set instead. The first board (about 22" long) finished out great. One pass with the "Tongue" bit and after a little bit of set up tests, one pass with the "Grove" bit. Very little planing down to make the seams even. "Great" I thought. Now on to the other boards. (about 2 or 3 weeks later) Again the "Tongue" bit did a great job but this is where it gets a bit cheeky. Taking the same scrap piece I use as a "set up" piece (meaning a "Tongue cut about 1mm or less deep), I started setting up for the "Grove" side. Holding the scrap piece tightly, I lightly bring it to the bit so I can see how close it was running after I had gotten it close with the router being turned off.Let me stop here and give you a bit of info. I am a professional woodworker (meaning I get paid for most of my work) and have been doing this a long time. I have a Bosch 1617 EVS router in a very sturdy cabinet. Also I followed the speed settings which is 16,000 rpm. That equates to # 3 seed setting on that Bosch. So this ain't my first rodeo mate.Carefully I slid my scrap over to the spinning bit making fine adjustments before I even touched the scrap piece to the bit. Looks spot on. Lock the router in place and try my cut. Still less than 1mm into the wood and just to the side of the "Tongue" cut. So glad I had eye protection on. A piece of that top bit's carbide cutting tip came flying off. I did say that the setup cut was less than 1mm. Right? Not a fun day when a 3mm x 3mm piece of shrapnel comes flying at you. God was with me on that one. The only thing damaged was the scrap "setup" piece and the bit. I was even able the find said shrapnel. So now I look into doing a return. Amazon said I needed to contact the company directly. In short, I talked to a warranty guy directly and was surprised that he was a local (same continent and not from china). He sent me an email with the return instructions within minutes. Great customer service. However as I thought because it was a warranty return, they should've picked up the shipping tab. No such luck. There goes another $14 to UPS. Ok not bad. Cheaper than buying a new set. plus the turn around time was pretty quick too. Woo hoo.Fast forward several months. Time to get going on the next batch. Same deal just a new day. Only this time I haven't found the potential ER visit and it has ruined some expensive Cherry wood plus I lost that job. Time to see if they will honor their product again or do I switch to a different brand. So buyer be ware. You could end up with a visit the either the ER or even the cemetery.I'll try to update this after I find out how well it goes this time.

The were some low star ratings for these bits that mostly had to do with loose bits being damaged in shipping. I was a bit hesitant, but really wanted the quality of Freud instead of the cheap imports. I took the chance on ordering these. Amazon messed up the first order and I received a cheap pair of grinding stones instead of my router bits. After processing a return of the wrong item and re-ordering these bits again, they came in two days. I was delighted to find the bits were secured inside a plastic case with zip ties so there was no chance of them coming loose and clanging around. I installed them on two different router tables, fine tuned them, and went to work building my kitchen cabinet shaker doors. I am thoroughly pleased with the bits. They are sharp and balanced and come with a variety of shims to change the width of your tongue and groove to suit your needs.

These bits are very sharp and very accurate. Shims are included on both bits which allow for fine tuning the height of the tongue and the groove. There is a chart on the packaging that details the different thickness settings and what shims are needed to dial them in. I find it easier to cut accurate and tight-fitting tongue & groove assemblies on the router table as opposed to the table saw. I have used these bits to make frame-and-panel cabinet doors and for glue-ups. Adjusting the fence on the router table allows for fine-tuning the depth of the cuts. This could also be achieved by using larger bearings on the bits themselves, but you'd probably still want to use a fence... and I'm not sure how many people have the extra bearings floating around.

The package housing the bits was filled with packing peanuts, which was likely done to mitigate any damage caused by the bits dislodging and bouncing around inside the package during shipping. I'm pretty sure the shipper did this, as none of the Freud bits that I see at my local Woodcraft have these peanuts inside the packaging. I appreciate this extra effort.

I normally try to stick with Whiteside for my router bits, but I am pleased with these Freud bits. I could not find a Whiteside offering that was adjustable and competitively priced. I have no regrets though!

I took a while to write this review, I wanted to see how many different ways a woodworker could use these- I have 30+ years of "Heirloom Quality" custom woodworking for my background, I used this set 1st with some Zebra wood, next to Bugina (on both sides) some Purpleheart and finished the outsides with Bloodwood- It made a very "busy" tabletop, the different species had NO tearout, I thought the Zebra wood may, because of the hard & soft mixed grain- The next project I did was put Country Maple on some particle board for a counter top base (I did rabbit the 1/2 inside edge 1/16" flush w/ the particle board for the formica) it came out perfect, the T & G gives so much glue contact area, it works much better than standard "V- groove". I have used this set for many other projects and never had any problem (I may sharpen them this year) I paid $72.00 for the set, grab them now before they go up- keep them clean, turpentine works well, don't allow them to get hot, I use them in my JessEm mast r lift w/ a 3 1/4 H.P, Porter Cable 7518 , mounted to a "WoodPeckers 43" x 24" top on an Incra base(I wanted the BEST router table I could build- Amazon had all the different pieces- Freud makes the best router bits, these have held their settings every time- Thanks to all the woodworkers who review the tooling we use, thanks to Amazon for always keeping myself very happy and the availability to buy the BEST woodworking equipment from way out here in the Black Hills of Wyoming- Happy wood shavings

I purchased these to fabricate a set of Shaker cabinet end panels. After receiving a quote of over $1,500 for four end panels, I knew I could do this myself for a fraction of the cost. Using this T&G set with a router was infinitely easier than using my table saw. I love that the router bits are adjustable, in comparison with other sets with are fixed at 1/4". I wanted to use 1/4" plywood panels instead of MDF, which is a problem for most other T&G router bit sets, since the thickness of 1/4" plywood is more like 3/16", which would leave too much space in the groove once the plywood panel was inserted. This set worked perfectly for my needs. The fact that this set can adjust for different thicknesses makes it a better value over time in case I have future projects with different thickness requirements.

I'm deducting one star because the product documentation was thin on details on how to adjust the thickness using the washers. Although I could have figured it out on my own, I wanted the clarity of documentation. I tried to download documentation from the Freud website, but they required that I set up an account before downloading, which is a PITA that I didn't want to deal with. I eventually found the necessary documentation here on Amazon, but Freud shouldn't make it that difficult.

These feel really well made. Solid construction and let me make cabinet doors really easily with the fine adjustment shims. They feel like they will last a lot longer than some other bits available online.

My only gripes are they can be tough to initially get out of the case (wear gloves as they are super sharp!) And the instructions are not entirely easy to read. A little trial and error solved some problems but there doesn't seem to be any further explanation of how to read their chart online. I couldn't tell which shims were which size but maybe I'm just a little new at this.

I would also mention that it is a very tall bit so it would be ideal to have router fence with a larger opening height wise to get the most versatility out of it.

Overall feels like a professional product.

The blades were damaged. I assume this happened because the router bits were unsecured in the box and while in transit, they hit each other.
