Used for Cayenne salve... excellent results

I decided to try this for the cayenne arthritis salve I make. The SHU of this is roughly double what I usually use so I hoped to be able to use less of the salve with the same pain-relief punch.

I infused it in EVOO for 24 hours on lowest heat in my double boiler and the color/results were about the same as the milder pepper. It drained up nicely, still no noticeable odor change from my previous batches so I guess I have to go on faith that this is really as hot as labeled. It does make the kitchen smell delicious though!! When I mixed it into the beeswax it did cool down to a nice, even salve. I gave a jar to my son to try, hopefully he reports that he likes this batch better than the milder recipe.

UPDATE - October 2013: The cayenne salve worked great. My suggestion to everyone I gifted it to was to put their hand into a sandwich baggie when they apply it just so it doesn't get in their eyes or burn other places.... *** I have been using a new recipe recently and have had good results by adding turmeric to the blend. I infuse 3 parts of the 90,000 Hu cayenne with 1 part ground turmeric root ... Frontier Ground Turmeric Root (minimum 5% Curcumin), 16 Ounce Bags (Pack of 3) ... infused in EVOO for 24 hours on low then drained and mixed with pure beeswax. Everyone I give it to swears by it.

It's not just hot

I've recently gone on a health kick. One of my new regimens is taking cayenne pepper on a daily basis. I knew the small grocery store containers wouldn't be very economical for my purpose and had also read that the hotter the pepper the better so I went straight to Amazon. Of all of the different offerings I found, this one seemed to be the best deal. I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered it but was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. It came in two separate mylar bags of 1lb. each. The bags aren't resealable so I had to put it into another container. I found that one bag fits perfectly into a 1 quart Mason jar. I will say that taking cayenne pepper all by itself is not an easy thing to do, but I'm getting used to it. It helps that this pepper has an excellent flavor. It's not all heat. So, whether you are using it in a recipe, making your own hot sauce or taking it as a daily supplement, I think you will be satisfied with the flavor and heat of Frontier's ground chili peppers. And the price is hard to beat.

For those of you who are new to taking cayenne pepper as a daily supplement or are considering it, here's my experience: The first time I tried it I used 1tsp. in 8oz. of warm water as a sort of tea as I had read on several different natural health forums. I found that it was way too hot for me and 8oz. of it was a lot more than I could make myself drink. My next attempt was 1tsp. dumped on the back of my tongue and washed down with plenty of cold water.. around 16oz. I found that this was bearable, but that a full teaspoon was a lot to swallow. Much of it fell to the side between my cheek and gums... not pleasant. I have since reduced the amount to 1/2tsp and found this to be optimum for me. Surprisingly, there were no ill affects such as heartburn or reflux for me and have read that it will cure stomach ulcers. My only warning is not to take it on an empty stomach. My wife did that the first time she tried it and I'm not sure if I'll ever get her to try it again.

Natural, non-toxic critter repellent

I poured one full bag all around the base of my shed, where groundhogs were digging nests underneath. A bunch of it went down the open holes. Within a few days, they had moved out. About a month later, I noticed one loitering around there again so I used the second bag the same way. So far, they're giving the shed a wide berth and have apparently left the property altogether.

This stuff smells really strong even to a human (wear gloves, a mask and eye protection when pouring or you'll regret it), so it's probably overpowering for sensitive critter noses. Make sure to use it when there's no rain in the forecast, or it will just go to waste. Once it gets wet and soaks into the dirt, the smell is greatly reduced.

I've always used cayenne in my cooking, but this is the first time I purchased the 90k unit. Wow, is this hot. A little goes a long long way. I purchased this 2 pack back in May of 2012, and I still have almost a full pack left! One other benefit, for those not aware, is that you can make your own cayenne capsules (I use vegcaps) and if you ever feel any type of discomfort in your heart or chest, or high blood pressure, you can take a capsule and it is perhaps the best natural remedy. Some doctors say that it will stop a heart attack in progress, within seconds. I hope it never comes to that, but I do like to have some cayenne capsules on hand. I trust the ones that I make at home to be fresher and more potent than the ones you might buy at the health-food store. Anyway, great product. Next time, for cooking purposes, I might ease up and just get the 30k kind, as that is the kind I always used to get, as it is much more tolerable as far as cooking goes. Then again, due to my age (60), I do want to be prepared in case of health emergencies. At any rate, just use a tiny amount for cooking, probably a 1/4 teaspoon (or less) for an average size pot of whatever, unless you like your food so hot that it brings tears to your eyes.

I am using this product to make my own cayenne pepper supplements. Because of the excellent quality and taste, I will now also be using it to spice my dishes. The only problem that I see is that the country of origin is not listed on the product. ???? China???? This is why I only gave it 3 stars. If it listed the country of origin (and it were not that of China) I would definitely give the product 5 stars without hesitation. Also, the flavour is very pleasant, somewhat fruity as opposed to the standard bland taste of cayenne.
