Gritty As a Courthouse
Only an author like Marcia Clark, who has "walked the walk", can accurately describe the pressures of a high-profile murder case. As a long-time Los Angeles homicide detective, I have experienced during trial, the late-night meetings in the D.A.'s office; the struggle to interpret the expressions on the jurors' faces; the frustration of witnesses who fail to appear; the strategy sessions...the frustration of judicial rulings that defy logic or appear to be contrary to established case law.
Marcia Clark, perhaps more importantly, has captured the essence of why prosecutors and detectives do what we do. The desire to seek justice, to speak for the dead; to ease the burden on the families of the victims; but also for the intense sense of camaraderie by all involved in the prosecution. Nothing is sweeter than the victories nor more bitter than the defeats.
I'd like to buy Rachael Knight a Martini, but failing that, I'll have to impatiently wait for Marcia's next book.
An Author To Love!!!
I am a voracious reader. I often read 2-3 books a week, and am always sad when I've read through a favorite author's list of available books.
I purchased Maria Clark's first novel because I was curious. I was surprised at what an enjoyable read it turned out to be, and she has only gotten better with each novel. Great characters, excellent plots...I couldn't put this one down!
I'm very happy for Ms. Clark, and hope she is finally getting the appreciation she has always deserved.
A Superb Read
I am so glad that to have discovered Marcia Clark. This was her third one that I read, and it was outstanding. The actions and events leading up to the arrest would keep you reading all night. Then the big trial was loaded with suspense. This is just a great book. And in all her books I really like the interplay between Rachael and Bailey. I hope she writes many more...I will enthusiastically buy every one.
