Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

The superhero du jour in this smokin' sequel to Estep's debut (2006's Karma Girl) is flame-wielding Fiera, a member of the souped-up supergroup the Fearless Five, based in Bigtime, N.Y. As Fiona Fine, Fiera has a day job as a successful fashion designer, and in either incarnation, she is still grieving over the loss of her murdered fiance Travis (aka Tornado). There's romantic promise in the form of hunky Johnny Bulluci, the brother of a rival designer, but soon another Johnny surfaces, a crime fighter who's assumed the identity of the previously murdered crimefighter Johnny Angel and is bent on avenging Johnny's murder by villain Intelligal. Fiera & Co. are made plenty busy by Intelligal's plans for taking over Bigtime via Intelligal's infernal Vamp Machine, which supersizes villain Siren's hypnotic, people-controlling voice. Feverishly clever plotting fuels Estep's over-the-top romance. (Nov.)

I love Jennifer Estep and her writing. When I look for a fantasy I want something way out of the norm. I read all the PNR and like many others are running out of room on my book shelf (I'm afraid one of my animals will break a kindle so I dont' want to potentially waste money). I love the fact that this is sooooooo different from all the others. It has agreat story plot and the characters are always great and well written. I fell in love with her first book of this series KARMA GIRL. I also started her other series and am waiting for WEB OF LIES to finally come out. This is set around super heros continuing from KARMA GIRL. I grew up loving super heros (X-men all the way). The next book of the series is JINX, which I am happy to have already ordered. The characters are easy to figure out and that is the way Jennifer Estep wanted it to be. That was one of my favorite things about the book. It had great *hot* scenes that added much to the book. I really hope that these books get picked up again because I absolutely cannot wait to continue the series. These are one books that you stay up all night for because of the many twists in the plot and happy go lucky what will happen next. It does not have the gore or blood that other PNR has but it does have mystery. It is a very light hearted read that has humor in it too.

These books are light, fun and easy reads. I really just think of them as long comic books. They are silly and allow me to turn off my brain and just enjoy. A little drama is in there, but I can't take it too seriously when dealing with superheroes and uber-villains on every page. And while some of the characters have traits that annoy, they're not enough to turn me off the series.

Hot Mama is the second book in the Bigtime series and I just loved getting to reenter this world. I was just drawn into this wonderful story and I just couldn’t get enough of it. It was just so easy to get lost in this great story. I can’t wait to see what’s next from this author.

I read the reviews before buying this one, and despite them went ahead because I loved the first book. I'm glad I did. The zany humor of the first is still present and we get to meet new heroes. Loved Johnny. As for Fiera and her attitude, I thought it suited her. She had good reason to be mad at the world, and I liked she didn't take any crap from anyone.

I didn't like Fiona much in Karma Girl, but I wanted to read the series in order so I read this one. She is still a little annoying but she grew on me. This series is interesting.

I enjoyed the book. It starts a little slow if you have read the prior book. You spend a little bit of time trying to find out how everything fits together. Otherwise it was a fun read.

This book was great I loved it. Makes me lover her characters even more. It well written and I would suggest starting with Karma Girl its the first book of the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Slightly outlandish but funny and enjoyable escape

This is a comic book in short novel form and I like the characters and the humour. The story is predictable but I think that's intentional with the superhero storyline. Very different from usual fantasy books but very Estep and there are a few references to her other series linking in Bigtime to the existing Gin and Mythos worlds.

4.0 out of 5 stars Superhelden sind auch nur menschlich
Reviewed in Germany on January 22, 2013
