About the author
Greetings from a native Southern Californian. Yes, there are a few of us that exist!
I've been married 48 years to my high school sweetheart, Allen, who was born in Kansas. We met when we were fifteen. We don't have children, but are currently owned by a scruffy and adorable rescue terrier mix named Ivy. Though I'm a native Southern Californian, my parents are not. My father was born in Colorado and grew up in a migrant worker family. My mother's family were cotton share croppers in Arkansas. I've been writing since I was in my late-twenties. I published my first novel, Fool's Puzzle, when I was in my late thirties. I like to ride horses when I can (and luckily, have friends who own horses), walk my dog, travel with my husband and, of course, love to read. There are four girls in my family. I'm the number two sister.
I was named after my father and my grandfather. Both of them were named Earl. The first book I remember reading by myself was Curious George. I think it was the one where he went to the circus. My favorite fictional character is Old Yeller. He had courage and loyalty, two virtues I admire greatly. Back in the 1980's, for a year and a half, I taught a weekly craft class at a retirement home in Covina, California. My youngest member was in her late sixties; my oldest was ninety-eight. Those fifteen women taught me way more than I ever taught them. I love strawberry ice cream and fried tacos. Together or separately. Doesn't matter.

This book deals with Benni being the Chair of the 'Memory Festival' which is about all memories, life, home, death, youth, military etc. In the midst of this, her husband is faced with a sniper that is shooting patrol Officers on his police force.
Gabe, The chief of police finds the situation triggering his potent memories of being in-country in Vietnam. They are violent. While Benni tries to deal with Gabe's situation, she learns a member of her quilt group was a nurse during the Second World War and was a prisoner for 3 years.
What is the motive behind the snipping? Is it a former military member or a discontent? The city of San Celina is trying to continue their lives while dealing with this very real fear.
I found this book very fulfilling and as I stated, I took my time due to remembering my friends that I made during my time in the USMC, although I was fortunate to be stateside.
This is a book I shall re-read in the years to come. It was an important book to me.

I am into my sewing and quilting, I also only read mystery/detective books, so I've got two things I like in a book.
They are easy to read, no complex puzzles or wording, so good to just relax with after a hectic day. Writer builds up the characters through the series, so you begin to feel you know them. She describes the western/southern life style well and you can imagine and almost smell it sometimes. The info at the beginning of the book about the different quilting designs are very interesting, but you don't get bogged down with quilting info etc in the story as she just puts enough in to include it into the story. The plots are varied an interesting, as it is a different way of life to ours.
Really enjoying them and would recommend them if you are into crafts and mysteries.
