Moo Cow Book Misc. Supplies – October 1, 2004

3.7 3.7 out of 5 stars 21 ratings

It's soft! It's silly! It even moos!
Here's a spiffy plush cow book with a squeeze-it moo, a vivid pink terry cloth tongue, dazzling satin teeth, and four padded cloth pages of jaunty rhyming text.
Sort of a book, sort off a toy, sort of a blankie, Boynton's Moo Cow Book is an absurdly soft companion for the smallest of book lovers -- for car rides, for quiet times, for right this moment.
Perfect for babies, toddlers, and sensitive high-powered executives.

Sandra Boynton is a popular American cartoonist, children's author, songwriter, producer, animator, and director. Since 1974, Boynton has written and illustrated over seventy-five children's books and seven general audience books, including five New York Times Bestsellers. More than 85 million of her books have been sold, "mostly to friends and family," she says. She has also written—with Michael Ford—and produced six albums of renegade children's music. Three of her six albums have been certified Gold [over 500,000 copies sold] and "Philadelphia Chickens," nominated for a Grammy, has been certified Platinum [over 1 million copies sold.] Boynton has also directed twelve music videos of her songs, including the award-winning "One Shoe Blues" starring B. B. King, "Alligator Stroll" starring Josh Turner, and "Tyrannosaurus Funk" (animation) sung by Samuel L. Jackson. Early in the pandemic, she collaborated remotely with Yo-Yo Ma on three animated shorts: "Mooing Home" for Mr. Ma's Songs of Comfort project; "Chanson Profonde", a good-natured sendup of French chanson; and, as a companion to her book of the same title, "Jungle Night", Boynton's cello/guitar/percussion arrangement of Erik Satie's "Gymnopédie No. 1". She lives in rural New England, and her studio is in a barn with perhaps the only hippopotamus weathervane in America.

I got this book for my friend's baby girl. The noise maker is a cute function, but just a bonus... if I wanted a mooing button I would have gotten a mooing button. The book itself is fabulous. With the different textures and large soft print it's perfect for little hands. When read to, we always "lick" Clover's face with the cow's tongue. A week or so after acquiring the book, little Clover was caught licking the book on the right page! It was the cutest. The only "complaint" is there aren't more animals in this Boynton series.

Got this for twins, age 2&1/2. Think I will have to get another to keep peace in the family. They are REALLY into cows right now and this book was just the right one. They love it.

This book is super cute. Too bad it came with a broken MOO right out of the box. It gives this odd scratchy noise instead. Too bad because it's such a fun idea. Oh well, at least my 7 month old granddaughter doesn't know how it really should sound.

I purchased this book for my daughter. It has a button that you push to get it to moo. The first book I got did not work upon opening the product. I returned it, and received a second book. It worked for one day, and it too would not moo. The book is cute, and if it doesn't matter to you if it moos or not, then it's a good purchase. Otherwise, steer clear of this product.

Short and sweet. Great soft book for babies with fun touches, like the cow mooing, and a lick from a terry cloth tongue. My daughter loves it. Unfortunately, so do the dogs, so we had to buy another.

I give this book as a baby gift often. The little ones love it because it is soft and makes the moo sound

We love this book. My daughter's first laugh was at the "moo" this book produced. And while the sound didnt make it to my second born, my son still loves the look and feel of the book. As always, Sandra Boynton's wording is just perfect and so sweet. I wasn't disappointed by the "moo'er" eventually giving out - it's not every toy that survives from infant through toddler!

Mummydom
1.0 out of 5 stars Keep away from baby!

The Moo Cow book arrived looking very cute, however, upon detailed inspection there were many tiny loose threads, tags, and generally not all that clean or tidily made. It really needed a thorough wash, trim and blow-dry! (not just surface wipe with wet cloth as indicated), but this was not possible due to the battery operated noise device. Keep it away from your baby!
