Dead Space from EA is sure to please any action-adventure gamer looking for a bloody battle against deadly aliens. Dead Space for Xbox 360 begins when a massive mining ship, the USG Ishimura, comes in contact with a mysterious alien artifact and suddenly loses its communications with Earth. Engineer Isaac Clarke is sent to repair the Ishimura's communications, but arrives to find a floating vessel that has become a complete bloodbath. The crew is mutilated and infected with an ancient alien scourge. Clarke's repair mission is transformed to one of survival as he fights to save himself and return the artifact to the planet at any cost.

Fight with Weapons and Telekinesis
The alien hordes are incredibly resilient. You'll have to find creative ways to neutralize the attacking enemies by shearing off limbs with powerful weapons. And when the ammo runs out you'll be thankful that you can use your telekinetic powers to pick up objects (even the aliens' own severed arms and legs) and hurl them at your advancing enemies.

Graphics, Effects, and Sound Increase the Horror
EA delivers an incredibly frightening experience with state-of-the-art graphics and effects, an audio system that will have you jumping out of your seat, and a truly horrific atmosphere that is permeated with death, mutilation, and despair. As you explore the ship, the tragic story of the USG Ishimura will unfold in gory detail as you discover frantic logs from the hideously transformed crew in their final days.

True Zero-G Effects
You'll be able to take full advantage of zero gravity in Deep Space. Battling enemies and solving puzzles takes on new challenges and present ingenious opportunities with the Zero-G game play. You can use zero gravity to create your own path around obstacles by walking on walls and the ceiling. Leap across vast distances or change your perspective to gain a strategic advantage over your enemies.

I've never done a review for a product but after finally beating the game last night, I felt it was necessary. Dead Space was the first game I played after I bought my Xbox 360. I was always a Nintendo fanboy who only played Super Mario games, so when I bought my Xbox my first thoughts were "Uh... okay, so what do I play?" I spent days browsing for games that would be good to break-in my Xbox, introduce me to the new environment and controls of the Xbox, as well as the price not being too high (I mean, what if I didn't like it?) In the end, I settled with Dead Space and Bioshock; both platinum hits and fitting for a college student's wallet. I had to eeny-meeny-miny-moe to decide which game I'd play first and, as you'd expect, it was Dead Space. If I had to choose one word in the entire English dictionary to describe this game, it would be "wow," and even then that's an understatement. Anyways for this review, I'll split it into four sections: story, controls, graphics, and sound.

Story//
Dead Space's story is probably one of the most interesting Sci-Fi stories I've heard. At first, you're given limited knowledge about what is going on. All you know is that you're on some ship called the USG Ishimura and most, if not all, of the passengers have been killed or turned into some sort of alien monster thing. As we dwell more in the game, we discover that those "things" are called Necromorphs, an alien species from the planet Aegis 7 that uses dead human bodies as hosts. Dead Space does a great job in mixing religion (the fictional Unitology) with the events that take place. As you try to return the Marker, a mysterious relic from the planet Aegis 7 that is the source of the Necromorphs, back to its home planet, you encounter multiple obstacles, such as the devout Unitologist Cpt. Matthius. I don't want to spoil the story for you guys, but its perfect combination of thrill, drama, betrayal, and bits of romance will have you screaming "Oh shit!", "What the hell?!", and "That's messed up!" throughout the game.

Controls//
Because this was the first game I ever played on an Xbox, getting used to the controls took me a while. I still didn't even know the locations of the A/B/X/Y buttons, as well as what LT/RT/etc meant, so you can see why it took me a bit. For the experienced gamer, the controls might be simple. Moving on; the controls, once mastered, are very straightforward. I don't want to spend too much time blabbing about what button does what, since you can read that in the manual as well as the tutorial in the beginning of the game. You won't have issues trying to press different buttons in an instant to kill an enemy. In reality, you'll only be using about 7-8 buttons fervently throughout the game. The controls are very smooth, especially once you get used to them. As you progress through the game, you'll be introduced to lots of new weapons. Most of them are very easy to use and control, but even then you can always practice a bit with low-level Necromorphs to help you break them in. Every weapon has a second alternative shooting mode, but trust me you won't forget that since you are constantly reminded every chapter. You are also given the option to use certain melee attacks on enemies, but honestly you'll probably only use them to smash open craters.

Graphics//
I was honestly shocked at the amount of detail in Dead Space. Perhaps it's because I am not used to the power of the Xbox, or maybe it's because Dead Space just has stunning graphics... or maybe both! Everything is so fluid and you won't find a single part glitchy, misplaced, or just plain ugly. Because the story is set in the future, everything is advanced. Doors are automated like in famous movies (ahem, Star Wars for example), holograms are abundant, and weapons are very high-tech. Because it's also set on-board a ship, everything has a metallic and advanced sort-of feel to it. Enemies are also very detailed, as you can get very close to their face and noticed the outstanding detail.

Sound//
Perhaps the most thrilling part of this game is the sound. Even if you play this game with the highest possible brightness, I ASSURE you that the sound WILL freak you out at some parts. The blood-gurgling screams of passengers being killed and dismembered by Necromorphs sound SO real that it makes you wonder "How the hell did they record that?!" Depending on the type of speakers you have, you can either hear crispy-clear sound or an "eh" sort-of of experience. Every footstep Isaac makes, every door opening, every scream and cry sounds amazingly clear. In all honesty, the sound experience was truly the reason I love Dead Space.

->Overall<-
Overall, I'm very happy I chose Dead Space as my first Xbox 360 game. It has amazing graphics, a great story, easy to learn controls, and one of the most realistic sound experiences you can find. I was hoping to find some cons to list, but I couldn't! I believe this game was amazing and had no issues whatsoever. It was a great title and all I can say is if you're into Sci-fi, shooters, and lots o' gore, Dead Space is for you. Give it a chance and who knows, you might love it just as I do. Now onwards to Dead Space 2!

This game provided an experience not often used in games prior to its release. Dead Space is more than a third-person shooter (or TPS). It provides the player with a sense of being on-edge, for the unexpected is always around every corner. The game is naturally dark, and has a horror-type experience. It is not recommended that one plays this in the dark on their first playthrough.

Personally, I have been startled many times over the course of playing this game, even after replaying it twice. As one progresses through the game, rooms are revisited; however, one cannot expect the room to be safe, even if they had walked through 2 minutes before. I even screamed once: I was walking back from a room, through a hallway I'd just been through, and I noticed a dead body which was there before. ...But as I walked past it this time, it jumped up at me and lashed out with a horrifying yell.

The plot is genius--there's even a live-action movie in the making, based on the Dead Space series. The game provides hours upon hours of fun. Replay is encouraged because you keep your armor and weapon upgrades, your credits, and your entire inventory. There are also several achievements to acquire, many of which are fun, others are puzzling. (Keep a sharp, wandering eye out for the elusive Peng treasure!)

I was very satisfied with this product. It was worth the price, and sufficient information was provided on this website before I bought it. The game arrived new, still in its packaging. Upon examination, it was in mint condition and everything was in order. I am fully satisfied and I recommend this product.

I am 30 years of age and this game had me on edge for the entire ride. I jumped numerous times. I couldn't believe it kept getting me, but it did! The key is that it doesn't inundate you with enemies like most games (which kills suspense). You are also rarely ganged up on, which is nice (but you better be ready at ALL times). My only complaint is that the game character is a bit sluggish (compared to Halo 3 for example), but this only adds to the realism. How fast could a person really run around wearing a heavy-duty work suit and wielding a big tool for a weapon after all? And speaking of tools, nearly the entire weapons arsenal is industry tool based (in a distant future of course). I found such an approach to be an awesome (and unique) experience. The sound track is unbelievable and really adds to the intensity and suspense. The graphics are also excellent which of course makes a game like this even more realistic (and scary). The storyline and voice acting are also top-notch. If you are brave enough, turn off the lights, crank up the volume and really let yourself get immersed in the game. If you are not creeped out in short order something is probably wrong with your amygdala. Highly recommended.

Update:
I am increasing this game to just under 'Masterpiece' status. Simply an excellent and very fun game. Give EA some business on this one, they really deserve it.

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST exploration upgradable horror shooters on xbox 360/ps3.

AMAZING exploration and interaction of an intricate metallic world, press electronic panels to activate large machineries and mechanisms, shooting of monsters is an added bonus to the all the greatness, use a plasma cutter to grind off a monster's leg it will fall, grind off it's arm it dies leaving ammo or credit money to pick up, when 2 or 4 monsters are running towards you at the same time you can use the slow motion power to slow some of them down as you concentrate on 1 of them to take down one at a time which is so fun and terrifying at the same time, find access and key codes to open electronic doors, finding(and buying)of power nodes to upgrade your weapons, armor and power at the upgrade stations in which each time I found or bought a new power mode at 10,000 credits I felt so excited to run down to the nearest upgrade station to increase the power of my weapons or other upgrades, finding of items, credit money and ammo kept in lit storage boxes and this game keeps on getting better because you can buy weapons, ammo and other items at the store consoles you come across. This videogame is really TOPS.

When I recieved the game, the plastic around the box was totally ripped apart and the case itself was about to crumble, but hey that's what I get for ordering used I guess. Nonetheless, it had a fully functional game disc and the booklet as well so honestly I don't really care about the case, especially since I perfected the game so it just kind of collects dust now haha.

Anyway, incredible game, super fun, cool story, replay value and all that. Also, it's not that scary, but if you want to up the scary, I recommend playing in the dark with over-ear headphones. Have fun.
