The Next Generation of Futuristic Mecha Action
Set in the future, chaotic warfare has engulfed the universe. The world is ripe with strife as gigantic mecha called Mobile Suits march to war on land and in space. Featuring characters and mecha from over 30 years of Gundam anime and manga series, Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3 thrusts players into the galactic melee with over 50 playable and upgradeable characters and over 70 playable and upgradeable Mobile Suits combed from the Gundam universe. New additions include Mobile Suits from Mobile Suit Gundam 00, Mobile Suit Gundam UC and many more.
New Gameplay Features
Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3 also features a number of gameplay additions to the series, including 3 brand new featured systems, including the Partner Strike, Emergency Dash and Recovery Gauge Systems, which will bring a new level of full-out tactical action to the series. The Partner Strike System will enable the player to summon partner characters to the battlefield to assist at crucial moments, affecting your character's current melee engagement or possibly the overall battlefield conditions for your army. The Emergency Dash System will allow players to execute new cancel and evasion moves negating enemy attacks. This system will bring a new level to gameplay since powerful combos can be more easily parried. The new Recovery Gauge System enables players to recover armor during battle allowing players more flexibility in their tactics on the battlefield.
Additionally, Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3 brings a new strategy facet to gameplay. Battlefields now incorporate multiple facilities with various functions. Capturing these locations will change the battlefield conditions and turn the tide of the battle in your favor. Players will be also able to use a new Chain Explosion System to engulf their enemies in a maelstrom of fury. By initiating an explosion via certain attacks, players will be able to cause further carnage with their own chain of explosions. Skillful players can use this system to finish off entire squads of Mobile Suits in one blow, thus turning the tide of battle in their favor. Furthermore, players can take their favorite Mobile Suits and band together with others in intense online multiplayer co-op action with up to four players

Now I play because, not only is it fun, but I get to unlock new player characters, and Gundam mechs or whatever they call them. I never knew there were so many different Gundams. This is way fun and cool for me.
While the first two could be seen as steps forward, this one is a leap. Graphically, it's quite pleasing, as far as the suits go. The environments - as with all Dynasty Warrior games - leave something to be desired, but if you're a die-hard Gundam fan like I am, you won't let it bother you as you take your favorite pilot in your favorite suit and destroy your enemies with devastating attacks and flashy moves. One of the most notable improvements is the new mobile suit development lab which is far less convoluted and random than the previous game.
A big thing people were looking forward to is the online multiplayer, and sadly, it's almost non-existant. It plays nothing like the real game, just big empty zones with two or three ace pilots in them, and the net-code is so bad that they'll often be seen attacking the air while your team mate is off in the corner somewhere, so it really detracts from the action. The big boss fights are still fun though, like the Psycho Gundams, and the Devil Gundam, as the game doesn't seem to spaz out as much on those - they're a good way to earn pilot points and parts for suits.
The music, unfortunately, is the standard midi-guitar soundtracks that you'll find in most Dynasty Warriors games, again disappointing me with the lack of liscensed Gundam tracks, but that might be expecting too much. The story is better, but that's not saying much, really. The characters are all lead to some 'signal' they've picked up, and end up in an alternate dimension - same silly plot idea as the first game, basically, but one noticable change is that the characters seem to be acting and making decisions like the real ones from the shows, something I appreciated.
Overall, if you're a huge Gundam fan, and have a friend that can come play on your couch with you, you can't really go wrong with this game. Couch co-op is still a blast, as you can do most of the missions from single player this way, just don't rely on the multiplayer co-op to carry the game. If you're playing by yourself, your mileage may vary, but I find it a blast to unlock new stages, suits, and characters while I thrash on a sea of metal.
However, I ended up being a little disappointed.
The game overall was a little dull. I was impressed with the graphics but it wasn't enough to satisfy the overall Dynasty Warrior feeling and the cartoon-ish dialog made it worse. Sometimes your attacks would lag or it wouldn't register at all. The level of difficulty wasn't the same the original Dynasty Warriors and the plot of the story made the game a bit dull.
Maybe other gamers would enjoy this, but this game doesn't grab your attention as the other Dynasty Warriors, maybe because the makers were targeting young gamers around 10-13 year olds instead of the older generation.
