Ultra Dance 15

EDM has become so popular—and pop music has absorbed so many of its qualities—that it stands to reason that the latest installment of Ultra's wildly popular dance music compilation series would feature both styles in equal measure. Disc One contains the Top 40 delicacies: Lana Del Rey's "Summertime Sadness" sounds like anything but in the hands of Cedric Gervais, who transforms the track into hefty trance. Capitol Cities' already epic "Safe and Sound" becomes even more so with handclaps, laser synths, and massive kicks. Most telling of all: Tegan & Sera's "Closer" doesn't require remixing at all to sound groomed for the dance floor. The intensity picks up with some of EDM's heaviest hitters on Disc Two. Diplo & GTA's "Boy Oh Boy" announces, with its air-raid synth, that things are about to get heavy. A-listers such as Cash Cash, Blasterjaxx, and Benny Benassi do their part to deliver, the last with an extended mix of the gargantuan peak-hour banger "Back to the Pump."
