Easy Arduino project and Great Customer Support
Very easy to wire and program with an Arduino UNO! My first strip unfortunately broke, but I got another one free of charge and customer support was amazing. The recommended power supply works but I would recommend one with more max amperage (Do NOT supply more than 5V to the strip.) I highly recommend the waterproof strip. The lights are smoothed out by the covering, more durable, and, of course, waterproof.If you are interested in more details I have them below:I bought the black non-waterproof strip and the recommended 5V 15A power supply so that I could hook it up to an Arduino UNO and create patterns and lighting around my desk. The wiring was easy, no soldering required, the colors are vibrant, and the strip is responsive and steady.However, within an hour, my strip stopped working, so I contacted customer support. Their responses were friendly, understanding, and quick, and over the next week they helped me troubleshoot my problems by looking at my wiring and code, until they eventually gave me a full refund and let me keep the broken strip. I have since bought a waterproof strip and had no issues.The power supply that is recommended (5V 15A) is plenty to run all the LEDs on max brightness, but only for colors. White light takes more energy than colors do, so at higher brightnesses you get flickering and redness. I only use colors, so its not a big deal, but it is a shame that I can't use its full potential. A 5V 18A power supply should be plenty to run the strip, even white colors at max brightness. If these issues really do bother you, there is an option to power the strip from both sides, which fixes a lot of it.If you wish to do the same thing I have, I have attached a wiring diagram. You will need to download the Arduino IDE and the FastLED library. You will need to comment out the default option in setup() , uncomment the WS2812B option in setup(), and likely switch RGB to GRB in that line of code. Note that you may need to change your DATA_PIN in your code to 3 (or whichever pin you are using) and you can run the Arduino off of the power supply by plugging one of the red wires into Vin (not shown in the wiring diagram). You may need to attach a 220ohm or 470ohm resistor between the data pin and the green wire to reduce noise. Most other information can be found through Google.
