I'm a bit of snob when it comes to art technique books, so this 5 star rating is GENUINE!!! First, it's modern in the truest sense, (not as in early 2000s "modern,") and it's freshness conveys a "right now" pulse to both inspire AND instruct. Structurally, we are dealing with a sizable hardcover book that packs in almost 240 pages. Besides showcasing a smorgasbord of mixed media art, the book is sectioned by techniques. Image transfers, stencils, collage, printmaking, decoupage, papercutting, mail art, etc., are displayed with technique breakdown for all ranges of artist (yes, from amateur hobbyist to professional artist looking to get the juices flowing.) Types of papers, paintbrushes, paints, and mediums are brought up comparatively and discussed throughout... Sure, not every technique / style is included to please every single reader --- it's so thick and vast, I would never rate this book based on how much I personally will apply to my artwork. I find it frustrating when great products suffer from irresponsible reviews. This book -- as a product -- does just what it was set out to do.

I have "mixed" feelings about this book!

On a serious note, I would say it's a little over exaggerated when the title says it's a "complete book of...." it isn't complete mixed media book however it does have a lot to offer and lots of colourful pictures to go along with it. The book is large and sturdy with a nice hard cover...it's a solid book with full colour pictures on every page for the price point. The instructions for some techniques are a bit vague, but still able to figure it out with the pictures.

The part that really gets me is at least 8 projects in this book is pulled from other books that I already own, one of which, they took at least 6 projects from is Mixed Media Workshop published in 2012, Mixed Media Art has also a similar layout as that previous book, however it has much more information instead of just projects to learn the different skills of mixed media.

If you already have a large collection of Mixed Media books, like I have, I would probably skip over this book since the projects are similar and the techniques are nothing surprising. If you are NEW to MIXED MEDIA and want a GOOD BOOK for getting started in this medium...I would certainly suggest it as an inspiration and skilled building book.

Now I have to decide to return it or keep it?
