Seriously, it does not have an Assassin's Creed feel at all. All you do is loudly murder people, en mass. It feels like it belongs to a different game series. Still buy it though, its seriously great.
- Some missions will daisy chain into other missions, where subsequent parts only unlock as you complete them in order. However, sometimes the subsequent missions never become available after completing a mission, and these are main story campaign missions. So it’s possible to completely lock yourself out of being able to make progress. Your only hope is to load a save file from before you completed the mission and complete it again. Ubisoft is aware of this but hasn’t fixed it.
- Some missions lock up in the middle stages. Some missions require you to complete several objectives within the same mission, and a bug is breaking them during the middle, leaving you permanently unable to complete them. This is happening with a laundry list of side quests and main quests, some of which Ubisoft acknowledges, and others that they act as though don’t exist despite many people complaining about them online. “Pig of Prophecy” is one that is broken.
- When fishing, sometimes fish will not get recognized as being caught as far as the “catch one of every fish” trophy goes.
- The 3 new added abilities Ubisoft added which only unlock upon completing the main story will appear, and then suddenly disappear, leaving you permanently with unspent ability points. Sometimes when loading a save from before the time you unlocked them will allow you to unlock it again, but other times it just awards you mastery points instead of unlocking the 3 new abilities because there is cross-save corruption going on that makes the game think you already unlocked them. Even if you load any prior save from before the time they disappeared, they are still gone on every save file.
- Sometimes the game will reset your quiver upgrades without giving back your insanely rare “fabric” used to craft them. Even if you manage to load a save from before this happened, you might still *see* the quiver as being fully upgraded, but if you check the quiver;s capacity, it’s stuck at the default standard capacity without the upgrades. This will so,show affect ALL save files and corrupt them all.
- After collecting Treasure Hoard maps, and examining them, sometimes they won’t become available for collecting. This happens randomly for one or two treasure hoards on some of the YouTube channels I’ve watched where they show the issue. For me, however, it seems to be affecting them all. I can’t collect any of them.
Ubisoft never should have even considered releasing this game, even now. Yet they are wasting people’s time by adding glitchy holiday quests instead of fixing the game. Most of the game seems to be designed using a User Interface meant for a PC rather than a console, making menu navigation a painfully slow nightmare. By being this cross-platform they’ve become a jack of all platforms and master of nothing but bugs. Beyond the ones affecting me directly and completely preventing me from progressing any further, there is a huge list of other bugs, many of which are also game-breaking.
It pains me to even say this, but I hope they never make another Assassin’s Creed again. I’d rather the series die than morph into a source of frustration and time-wasting. Most of the recent games have barely related to the franchise anyway, the past two games the protagonist wasn’t even an assassin. It’s lazy and I’ve grown to hate the franchise it’s become, which would be forgivable if it wasn’t broken. If these were the days before online game updates, they’d be out of business paying out to class-action lawsuits.
Like Origins and Odyssey, you can focus on melee, stealth, or ranged abilities. Unlike those games, melee is the only viable path. In past games, it encouraged stealth (hence the name Assassin's Creed), but most of the bosses are immune to stealth and ranged attacks. You just get tossed into some arena like environment fighting a boss with a ton of hit points and predictable moves. You have 2 attacks, light and heavy, with no real combos. The slow skill progression also means you won't have may useful combat abilities and the adrenaline system makes it so you can't use them much even when you do unlock them.
The loot options are pretty terrible. Rather than finding new gear, the game really just focuses on slowly upgrading your existing gear. I'm 30 hours in and I've yet to find something better than my starting armor and axe.
The graphics are great, but repetitive. The main story is slow and boring, which they unsuccessfully try to cancel out with "quirky" side quests that just don't fit the tone of the game at all. A few quirks are fun, making every single region have 15+ side quests that are all trying too hard to be weird is not.
I was really looking forward to this game, and I really doubt I will even finish it, which will make it the first game in the series I didn't finish.
