I purchased this pool alarm because my grandson will be coming to visit soon and, even though we will be extra careful to make sure he doesn't have access to the pool area, I am not willing to take any chances with safety. I installed it and tested by dropping a couple gallon jugs into the pool as directed and it operated the alarm. Shortly after the installation we had some torrential downpours with wind and there were no false alarms. We left it in the pool overnight for over a week and still no false alarms. I'm completely satisfied and would recommend it to a friend; it works as advertised.

Having used this product for over month now I stand by my review. Other reviewers are critical of the disarming method, poor instructions, setting off the alarm on installing or removal of the device, having to drill a hole in the deck, and the small key that can be lost. I found the instructions to be clear. It must be installed and removed very slowly; it's sensitive for a reason, and I'm glad for that. One reviewer recommended a finger over the siren which I have done and it works great while removing in case you accidentally set it off. The indoor alarm is also loud for a reason. Like my house security system it's designed to attract attention. It's very simple to unplug it before removing the pool unit to prevent disturbing anyone in the house if you're having trouble with accidentally setting it off. The hole in the concrete is very small. Gosh, I have holes in the concrete for the ladder too, and they are much larger. The key is a magnet about the size of your thumb, designed that way I'm sure to avoid an exposed mechanical switch that would be more vulnerable to the elements. My first thoughts too were that it would be easily misplaced, so all I did was loop a couple plastic ties through the handle and the key. It's secured to the unit. Doesn't look great, but I don't care. I have no doubt one could find something better looking like a small stainless chain to attach it if appearance is an issue. I can't speak to the effects of an automatic pool cleaner as mine hasn't arrived yet. I agree with the reviewer about having your kids know how to swim, and there is NOTHING to replace adult supervision. I can see how it would be difficult if you have people in and out of the pool frequently, but this device provides just a little more safety to help fill the gap for human error. We have nothing more precious than our kids and no price or inconvenience is too much to help protect their safety.

We purchased this one second hand, never used with a manufacture date of 2009. We installed it about 3 weeks ago. So far, no false alarms (we've had 4 decent thunderstorms in that time), and the alarm does go off every time you insert and remove and every time my 5 yr old gets on the first step. We can hear the alarm inside with the doors and windows closed (without the remote unit), but the remote unit lights up the entire house inside (2600 Sq ft.). There is a slight delay from the time the alarm goes on or off and the time the remote unit responds...about 2 seconds. If you are really gentle, you can get in the pool and not set it off, but for us the strategy is defense in layers. This is just another layer of defense against an accident. I think that most people who fall in are going to fight and that fight is probably going to set off the alarm. Or if my son tries to sneak in the pool without mom and dad knowing, we will hear him immediately. I could see a situation where an infant falls in and doesn't set it off but if you have an infant unattended by a pool, you have more serious issues than a pool alarm could ever solve. The biggest issue is remembering to re-insert when done swimming. I think I'm going to make a tag for the door handle, kind of like a Do Not Disturb sign. Place it on the door handle when you go outside, then you'll remember to re-insert before you come back in or at the very least you should remember to do it same day or very soon after getting out of the pool.INSTALL: Our unit had a pin on the bottom which would have required drilling a hole in the concrete decking. The pin screwed out, so I just removed it since I wasn't excited about drilling a hole. The coping around our pool creates a hump, so I needed a spacer block anyway. I decided to take a 4x4, cut it into 10" long pieces, then I cut big notches out and sandwiched them around the unit with 2 countersunk 4" deck screws. The wood is located between the top handle and the electronics module (fits snug, but not tight enough to damage the unit...can not remove it over the electronics module without unscrewing the wood pieces). I bored a hole from the bottom so I can access the screw to the electronics module without removing the wood. Anyway, this leveled the unit (still need to trim just a bit to level perfectly as you can see in the PHOTO) and added weight/stability to it. Admittedly, this solution was a bit more complicated than it had to be. There are better ways of solving this problem, but I was just trying to work with materials I already had laying around the shed. I may ultimately come up with a better and prettier solution over the winter.Overall, we are very pleased. The instruction booklet was not great, but it's not a complicated thing to figure out. I think it's overpriced at $190, but we paid way less than that which made it well worth it for us.
