When it was suddenly time to spend a lot of time working at home in on-line meetings, I decided to invest in a decent camera and read multiple reviews. While this camera was quite expensive (and price gouged when there was a shortage), I decided to purchase it based on picture quality review and due to the fact that it had its own microphone which was also supposed to be decent. I also wanted the camera to be plug-and-play because we can't install any of our own software (drivers or otherwise) on our work computers. I was using a mac laptop with secondary external large monitors and the idea was to have a camera work independently (sitting on one of the monitors) so I would not need to have my laptop open (possibly at a funny angle and blocking the other external monitors) every time I had to hop on and off a meeting.
It worked beautifully for about a month. Then all of a sudden the microphone just stopped working. It works on its own with built-in mac applications (like if you take a video of yourself), but it stopped working with Google meets, Teams, and Zoom. I'm aware that each one of those applications has its own setting for camera choice and mic input. It doesn't matter. I definitely selected the logitech mic as input in each application. There is also a place in the mac settings to select mic input. Sometimes the logitech mic would show up there as a selectable input, sometimes it wouldn't, but even if it was there and you selected it, and you selected it on the app you were using (such as Google meet), and you had the input volume turned up, the microphone still would not work. It's like it just didn't recognize it. Sometimes if you rebooted it would work, but that was frustrating because who wants to close all your documents you have open and reboot if a call comes in for a meeting. The reboot didn't always fix it. Sometimes changing USB ports would fix it, sometimes not. Just so frustrating because it was super expensive and it just doesn't work for the entire purpose I bought it for. I could not get help from tech support. I ended up in a loop page about check forums/etc. Camera quality is just ok. It's fine for work but not "wow" for the money.
Take away: you may need to load specialized drivers, mic does not play well with 3rd party meeting programs.
