You can tell the developers have genuine love for the original 1992 game, while also adopting gameplay elements from the modern Resident Evil remake titles. The gameplay isn't perfect - it can be a tad on the easy side, and combat can feel a little janky, but it makes up for it by actually retaining survival horror elements, beautiful environments, fun characters, a solid soundtrack and an engaging story!
This is an actual survival horror title, meaning it may not be for everyone; combat is not the priority, and there is a lot of back-tracking. Also, similarly to the original, there are notes you can find that are pretty long but are actually voiced.
This is not a remake, by the way, but a reboot! It borrows elements and characters from the original story but the narrative itself is completely different.
If you're a survival horror fan, give it a try! I think it's fair to say that Alone in the Dark is officially back! :)

You play Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood. In this classic, we learn about the characters and solve the mystery of the Dark Man. This game is a classic reborn and messes with your head. And with difficulty settings, this makes the game so much fun. I enjoy it. I am proud to call this a new modern classic.

The media could not be loaded.

A few minutes into playing this game and I could already tell I’m going to have a lot of fun! Plays like a resident evil game survival horror elements, puzzles throughout, Great character design, and voice acting. Highly recommend if you love survival horror, especially one that is as classic as alone in the dark, the game that started at all!

Game is similar to the game alan wake. If you liked Alan wake you will like this. Don't listen to bad reviews. Similarity to resident evil as well without the zombies.

I was enjoying this game. The "noir" dialogue, the music, and the "puzzle box" mansion were all doing it for me. Combat wasn't great, but it varied the gameplay and worked well enough. Then I got to one of the combat levels (being vague to avoid spoilers) and the game broke. I got the feeling that enemies were supposed to spawn in, but they were not appearing (ammo placement, level design, I've played a lot of video games). I messed around for 30 minutes trying to figure it out, and when I went online and my suspicion was confirmed. Not a bad attempt at survival horror, but games should work on disc.
