SACD Not Up To Snuff: Cosmos Factory by Creedence Clearwater -> Photos <- [ Hybrid SACD/DSD ]

SACD Not Up To Snuff: Cosmos Factory by Creedence Clearwater -> Photos <- [ Hybrid SACD/DSD ]
[ What is a Hybrid SACD? ] - - - - If you know this stuff go to the review below. Thank you.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------"Hybrid SACD" means that both SACD and regular CD recordings are on the same disk. Havinga Hybrid SACD does NOT guarantee surround sound or improved sound...you NEED...a CD player capable of reading SACD discs. If you don't have said equipment your regular CDplayer is only going to read the normal CD selections, not the SACD selections, resulting ina less dynamic sound in most cases.IF the SACD has 5.1 surround sound you will need an amplifier capable of splitting the SACDsignals then sending them to (another NEED) 4 or more speakers and a sub-woofer. Due tothe better sampling rate of the SACD over the regular CD you can receive a greater 'dynamic'sound or wider ranging surround sound from the 5.1 SACD. This SACD is NOT 5.1 Surround.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[ The REVIEW ]I do not think Cosmos Factory is the best example of an SACD/DSD album on the market. I amnot sure if it is the source material, the remastering, or my mid-level stereo Denon/ Polk Audiosystem; or some combination thereof. There seems to be an slight improvement in the dynamicsound; a bit more clarity in the soft to loudest music. Maybe my ears deceive me. I have found, generally, that most SACDs seem to benefit more from modern recordings than they do fromolder masters and mixes. This album was originally released in 1970 and is the fifth Creedence album. I enjoy this albumbut it is not my favorite "Bayou Country". Creedence Clearwater covers 5 songs and presents 6new ones. Generally a nice wide selection of songs. They put some horns in the mix as well assome keyboard, so sonically they were widening their reach. The album still retains the 'countryrock', 'swamp rock' feel of Creedence and did well in the charts.Even though it is not my favorite it is still a terrific album with wonderful music and lyrics. Thenow classic blues tune 'Before You Accuse Me', the Orbison Sun classic 'Ooby Dooby', 'UpAround The Bend' is a fierce rocker with a searing lead-in, 'Run Through the Jungle' goes primitiveand is almost hypnotic, and the radio favorite 'Who Will Stop The Rain' is a nice melody and hasa sad pensive quality to it. Then you have the Creedence jam piece 'I Heard It Through TheGrapevine', that old Soul Music favorite. This album stretches Creedence Clearwater more than their previous efforts and they respondedto the challenge very well. There is the rage of rock to the sadness of the ballad. Then you goteverything else in between. It is a nice ride and a album full of images that you will remember.I gave this disc 4 stars for the terrific range of music and lyrics but could not give it the extraone star because I am not so sure the SACD improved the dynamic sound much more than theremixed 40th Anniversary release. If you don't have a SACD capable player I wouldn't botherunless it is about the same price as the regular CD.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[NOTES / Audio reference: I have a mid-entry stereo system. It is a Denon AVR-1910 amplifierwith a pair of Polk Audio 45B Monitor speakers and a Denon DVM-2845CI DVD/CD player with a24-bit, 192kHz D/A converter. I listened to each disc in 'Stereo' only and at the samelistening level.]

5.0 out of 5 stars I heard it though the grapevine that this was a good album.
Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2017
I'm not rating the content of Cosmos factory because 5 start isn't a good enough for CCR, but I can rate the physical record and packaging that it came in. After all I could have just bought a digital copy if all I wanted were the songs, but I wanted something I could hold in my hands that was mine. The outer record sleeve is standard for any 33.3 RPM record, still just as thick as the sleeves that cover my older records from the 70s that have been handed down through barns and garage sales. There is an interior sleeve as well made of thin paper which is pretty much standard. the back of the album sleeve contains a listing of tracks and a collage of different band members with about half and half smiles and confused looks on their faces.

My record player gets the job done and after listening to the whole record I didn't detect any skips or scratches so the quality of the media is also 5/5.
