Editorial Reviews
The fifth studio project from the Tedeschi Trucks band is the most ambitious and, at the same time, intimate record that America's best rock n' roll big band has ever made: a genuinely epic undertaking in four episodes and 24 songs inspired by classical literature but emotionally driven by the immediate drama, isolation and mourning of the pandemic era. CD Softpak.

(they’re all great!) I have to comment on one track in particular : PASAQUAN. In my opinion this most definitely shows that the mantle formerly held by the Allman Brothers has been inherited, and deservedly so, by the TTB. The song starts off mildly with Derek finger picking and then the band joins in and is off to the races. Killer, killer song from a killer band. Can’t wait for III and IV. Btw II is great as well. I suggest buying them all. You won’t be disappointed if you’re a fan !
After waxing on about how wonderful PASAQUAN is and really digesting the other great songs on this cd I would be remiss in not additionally singling out I AM THE MOON as well. The song has a somewhat mellow beginning yet gaining strength and body with each chorus. As the chorus is repeated, at approximately 3:48 of the song, Derek leaps out of the mix with a combination of Hendrix
like notes to killer slide notes ONLY Derek can do.
If you haven’t picked this recording up yet, you owe it to yourself even just for these two tracks ( they’re all good though ).
Very strong EP from one of rhythm and blues-rock’s strongest modern contenders.
With songwriting that reminds one of Bob Dylan or even early George Harrison, this modern Delaney and Bonnie and Friends (or Joe Cocker’s Mad Dogs and Englishmen, if you prefer) is releasing a quartet of EPs based upon lyrical themes and characterizations from Eric Clapton’s classic “Layla” LP. The five songs on this disc features the best that this band has ever offered.
Mixing blues, R&B, southern rock and early seventies rock; this band is the massive result of the marriage of rocker Derek Trucks and blues singer Susan Tedeschi. When they got together, so did their two bands. And the results have been amazing, from a musical perspective.
At one point you’ll think “This reminds me of Eric Clapton working with Bonnie Raitt”; at another it’ll be “Why couldn’t they release all four as one twin disc package?”
Marketing and profits.
The concluding 12-minute instrumental piece is simply stunning, allowing all members of the group to take their moment in the sun, and it does remind one of Derek and the Dominoes. And the Allman Brothers Band.
Tremendous, if too short and given the marketing strategy.

Derek Trucks is obviously inspired on slide by Duane Allman (… damn it’s uncanny good), and by the time the band crescendos on the 12 minute song Pasaquan the 5 man band (two drummers) led by Trucks and Gabe Dixon on organ mix in a Greg Allman jazz sound with the jazz-rock fusion of Miles Davis via Bitches Brew. WOW. Amazingly well done without becoming free form jazz.
I Am The Moon 1 Crescent undoubtedly will be just as entertaining— if not more so—upon the third listen. The variety stands out with the song Fall In, an old-fashioned sound with a horn section and Mike Mattison on lead vocal. Fall In has an Allman Bros vibe with a touch of Taj Majal with its playfulness.
Song 4 Circles ‘Round The Sun ends with a great Miles vibe too. Trumpet Ephraim Owens.
I Am The Moon Crescent 4.8 stars worth 10$ for 35 minutes of music
The (Susan) Tedeschi (Derek) Trucks Band is a formidable ensemble—a practical orchestra of electric musicians and horn players—a perfect balance of experience and professionalism.
Only a band this good can make this ‘music sound’ so easily.

Update 7-6-22:
After learning that this album is only one of four. I'm anxiously waiting to hear the rest. As with any album, there may be tracks that just don't cut the mustard. I spoke too soon by giving this album only 4 stars. Being a TTB fan, I'm sure these next three albums will surely exceed my expectations. 24 tracks over 4 albums...can't wait!
Update 8-29-22.
Overall I'm pleased with the latest TTB releases. I was a little taken back by the first albums short track list. I felt the album was a little over priced for what was delivered. That being said TTBs marketing strategies can't be knocked for spreading this out over four albums. A real money maker for them. Being a fan. I'm not bothered paying performers for their work. Just wish this had been put out as two double albums and charged a little less. This won't be the first time I've overpaid for a CD. This one did deliver as far as music goes.

Also, I think the 4 albums should be just 2 because each of them feels more like an EP than an LP.
Mindestens. Eher mehr als das.
