Product Description
Beets are a cool weather crop best sown directly in early spring, after the danger of frost has passed, or in early fall. They are sensitive to acidic soils and prefer a pH of 6.0-7.0. Plant 3-4 seeds 1/2" deep and 1-2" apart in fertile, organically rich, well-drained soil. Keep the soil moist for the first 21 days. Once true leaves are established, thin back to 1 plant every 2-3". After 45-55 days, beets should be 2-3" wide; but they can be harvested earlier if “baby” beets are preferred.

care instructions | Well-drained | — | Water | — | Well-drained | Keep plants well-watered during the growing season, especially during dry spells. Plants need about 1-2 inches of rain per week during the growing season. Use a rain gauge to check to see if you need to add water. It's best to water with a drip or trickle system that delivers water at low pressure at the soil level. If you water with overhead sprinklers, water early in the day so the foliage has time to dry off before evening, to minimize disease problems. Keep the soil moist but not saturated. |
