There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
All of the sudden a couple of weeks ago it stopped working. Looked at the site and determined that the closest repair place was in Philadelphia about 130 miles away. Ok I figured, I’ll go there and drop it off. It’s got a 1 year warranty and it’s worth it to me to have it repaired because between my wife and I we make about 4-5 double shots every morning.
Happy about the warranty even though there was about $40 in tolls and 260 miles round trip to the service center. Please note that there are only about 8-9 in the whole country, so chances are real good that yours is even further away.
They actually repaired it in about 2 days. Good sign-expresso by the weekend. Another trip and back to pick it up.
It’s home on Saturday. Expresso on Saturday and Sunday. Everything is cool.
Monday, I go to make my coffee and whammo—same issue back. Not working.
So here we go again. What do I do. Spend the $80 back and forth plus the electricity in my car going back and forth and the 12 hours travel or do I get a new coffee maker.
Now the question is do I waste my money on a new DeLonghi or do I try something else. The Breville have higher ratings in consumer reports but those are very rudimentary makers.
Very disappointed with a machine that I loved until it broke.
The De’Longhi Dedica line of machines looked attractive. Then came the latest, the Arte and available as a monthly payment. This seemed attractive just in case I did not like the machine. So, I pulled the trigger at long last.
Setting up the machine was simple enough. Making a nice coffee drink, also easy to use. The box contains a really nice tamper, 3 pressurized baskets. Steaming and frothing milk, you need a pitcher, not included (happily I had one). It took me a few days to adjust the heat of the water, the default on the machine was low. Once I adjusted that, made all the difference.
I did order a flat bottomed non-pressurized portafilter and am happy with it. It is not an option with the box contents. Two months in, I love this machine. It ticked all the boxes for me, makes a nice latte/cappucino, easy to use, small footprint, easy to clean/descale. I am very pleased with it.
I can't tell you how disappointed I am...not only in this machine & the time Ive invested in it, but with the Delonghi name itself, especially, given the reviews! My 1st machine had a faulty frother right out of the box.. I used to feel that Delonghi was a "trusted" name of quality.. but not after this. It seems, IF you are "lucky enough" to get a solid machine that functions as it should, then, you will probably have a very pleasant experience. Otherwise, its returns & headaches. It is a shame because I really did love the machine. But, as for me, I'm choosing NOT to go for machine #3 with Delonghi! I'll be returning this and replacing it with a different brand. Sadly, I will rethink making any further Delonghi purchases.
I've only had this Delonghi Dedica 885 for going on 2 weeks... and yes, as others have said, there is a learning curve. I'm just now pulling/making pretty good espresso & cappuccinos. But.. it IS worth the time invested...
My Tip, is for the Brand New Delonghi owners who are struggling with a portafilter that is impossibly hard/tight to move & close!! This is my 2nd Delonghi Dedica 885; the 1st one had a faulty frother. But both, when new, had portafilters that were exceptionally tight!!! My 2nd machine was SOO hard, I thought for sure there had to be a misalignment & I was going to have to return a 2nd machine. Even my 6.2ft, 240lb fiancé said it was "ridiculously tight." Soo, because I totally dreaded yet another exchange, I decided to try something before boxing it all up.. as a last ditch effort... I put a TINY bit of EVOO on my pinky...I mean like *a drop* ... and lightly rubbed it only around the very top rim and the 3 "ears" of the portafilter. After it was a little "slick" from the oil, I rinsed the portafilter under cool water to rinse off any excess oil & then blotted it dry with a paper towel.. and Voila!!! It was still slightly stiff.. but NOTHING like when initially trying to turn/close it!! Initially, I could only turn my portafilter handle about an inch or a little more..then, forget it!!! BUT, after the oil and a few more "open & closes"... Perfecto, No more "bear-hugging" the machine fighting my portafilter trying to get it in place!!
Just remember, in this case, less IS more.. you can always add another *drop* if you must, but be conservative, being it is crucial the portafilter is 100% secure/locked in place before any brewing...
This saved me from an additional exchange & possibly the same struggle with another machine, so hopefully, I can save others the frustration. And remember, cut yourself some slack in the beginning, especially, if you're new to espresso &/or machines. You tube can be very helpful to aid in initial setup, as well as general guidance and tips if needed... So, hang in there because it really IS worth it!

I am pleasantly surprised to find the coffee from this cheaper unit is way better than the Infuser ever was. It is definitely feels more more cheaply made but it simply does what its meant to without fuss and bother. It came with a tamper of some weight which works well. You can remove the plastic tray at the bottom so larger cups / mugs fit OK. (see photo#2)
The Steam Wand is a little awkward, it doesn't move quite as far up as desired but it is still fit for purpose. (See photo #3).
Typically I would have eight (or so) triple shot coffees a day with the Breville, but curiously finding the taste of the coffee the De'Longhi makes is so rich and full I don't need that many and am down to five or six a day. Currently using the Cafe William Corposo beans ground quite fine and getting a nice crema with the double filter in the Sump. (The sump is deeper than the Breville Infuser was also).
The coffee from this is richer and fuller tasting than the infuser ever managed. So for the price I am a huge fan. Consistently good coffee at a reasonable price.

However, when I rang Amazon customer support they were very helpful and immediately issued a refund (not yet received - will take 5-7 working days to appear on my card) and a QR code for a free return of the package, so I cannot fault the customer service.
The portafilter is tight to engage at first, but I think mine is breaking in now, so it is a little easier. People have complained about it being tippy because it is so light, when engaging the portafilter, but some trial and error and I figured out the best way to hold it is on the machine just above where you put the portafilter in when you twist it.
After some practice I have worked out how to get nice foam for my lattes. I'm really happy with it. The machine isn't overly loud. The steaming for lattes is much quieter than my old Cafe Roma which sounded like dying banshees. I don't feel so guilty about using it when other members of the family are sleeping in the morning. People complaining about it not producing froth should watch some Youtube videos and keep trying. You will get it, and the froth will happen. Now I just have to figure out how to make art. Despite the lack of art on my lattes they still taste awesome, and the texture is really nice as well. Another thing Is full fat milk makes nicer froth, and add your syrups to your cup and not the milk.
An americano has become part of my morning routine. I like to put the hot water in my cup first and pull the espresso shot on top. It leaves the creme more intact. Speaking of straight into the cup, it is nice to be able to remove the catch tray and fit a regular sized cup under the portafilter, so no need to transfer espresso shots to other cups.
The baskets that comes with it comes apart for cleaning. I didn't see how often it is recommended that you take apart the baskets, but I would recommend once a day. I read other reviews that say after a few uses that their machines wouldn't pull a shot. I had this same issue, but I noticed that when I took apart the basket, it had dried espresso covering the little hole. Since then, I take it apart after I use it and either rinse or wash it off. I use a spoon to grip the little rubber tab to help it pull apart easier.
I found that the double shot was too small, only about an ounce of fluid and I read it should be 2 ounces. I was able to easily program the machine to pull a longer shot.
I really do love this machine and recommend it to those looking for an affordable espresso machine. Apparently you can buy a bottomless portafilter to upgrade and fine tune your espresso experience. I may one day do this.
Edit to add that I tried grinding my beans slightly finer ans now have better creme. The Ethical Beans, Sweet Espresso are delicious and so smooth tasting.
