I have some thin areas in my yard that I wanted to overseed and this works perfectly. I found it easy to do either long rows by essentially walking with this under one foot. I tried to be careful about not putting my full weight on it if it hit a root or rock, but there were a few times that you get in a rhythm and it happens to stop dead — no problem it didn’t bend. I did about 5000sqft tonight over about an hour and a half. It’s almost fun and you really can feel which areas have clay, gravels, are most compacted, or the softest topsoil. Plus as the cores are ejected you can stop and check them out. Only once in the first hour did I have a clog from a dine-sized stone that blocked one tube till I knocked it our with a screwdriver.
Totally happy. I do wonder if some of the other cheaper options would have been as good.
Now, the part that matters: the cores or tines. There was a review posted about 6 months back from a guy who had the "clogging" problem I experienced with this in an area notorious for clay soil. As I've got more serious with lawn and garden stuff, this has come true. My lawn is mainly compacted, clay soil. When I first started out, the ground was about 36 hours removed from a solid rain. I got clogs in one of the cores. Cleaned with a screwdriver and the same thing happened about 5-10 plugs later. I looked on reviews here for those who didn't just throw the thing out or return it and this was helpful:
http://www.amazon.com/review/R2ES9FU92PWQUX/ref=cm_cr_pr_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B000CZ30C8
The core is tapered as you can see in the picture and if you own it. Remove about half an inch using an angle grinder or dremel with a cutoff wheel, making sure to maintain the angle and leaving around 0.5-0.75 inches of the "smaller" part where the dirt would enter into. This helped a ton on the side that kept clogging up. However, I still got clogs, just around every 20 plugs now. I inspected the inside of the core, only to find that there was not a smooth cylinder, but "bumps" on the inside leftover from the welds. On a different product, similar in design but from a different company, a person suggested using a metal file to smooth these out. The bumps were thankfully close enough to the tip that I could take a grinding stone (aluminum oxide bit you'd use to grind or sharpen a blade) and smooth these out. About 5 minutes of getting a small bit in with the Dremel did the trick. I smoothed the burrs out with a file and tried it out with success. I did about 100+ plugs after some rain last night and had no clogging on either. I'd recommend to Yard Butler that they smooth the insides out to stop this from happening.
Also, as noted, doing manual core aeration is hard work. Renting a machine to do this from a shop is usually $60+ for 4-8 hours, and you'll need a truck to transport it; I've read that some Home Depots also have machines to rent but call them. Otherwise, this tool is doing what I bought it for. It's perfect if you want a workout and don't mind spending the time doing this. You can read about the benefits of core aeration to a lawn elsewhere, but it's well documented.
My yard is reasonably small so it only took me 30 minutes to do the whole thing. If you have a large yard I'd plan to use this for a spot treatment or to hire a service.
So far my lawn is looking healthy and the old cores have almost completely broken down. I'll probably plan to do this once in the fall and once in the spring.
Update: the first season I used this aerator it worked perfectly. The next two seasons it has been far less effective. I've waited for a deep rain each time I've tried to use it but now mud is packed into the cores. I've used a metal spike to clear the packed clay but usually I get only one or two steps before it's clogged again. It's ended up serving more as a spike aerator but that doesn't help with the compaction in my lawn. Perhaps the cores need to be larger but regardless, I've been less impressed with this aerator lately.

Very communicative and great service when I reached out on additional products. Highly recommended.
This is really well put together and feels like it is a quality product. It has a nice sturdy construction with some decent joins and welds on it. The handle is nicely padded and good to work with.
My lawn is mostly like concrete as soon as things get a little drier and is full of stones and other assorted rubbish, so going at it with this thing was the start of the war to rejuvenate it. When I used it, it was the start of March and the lawn hadn't yet dried out from the winter so everything was nice and soft.
This cut into the ground like butter and produced clean cores each time. I only had to un block it three times I think whilst I was doing it and I have about a 60 foot garden so was out there for around an hour doing this.
I managed to get a rhythm where I could keep my foot on the top of the splines and sort of step, press, lift, step press in one akward motion and it works really well. I hit stones and bits of brick (?) at some point but this thing didn't care. It either cut trough that stuff or kind of pushed it aside.
My dog also had great fun following me around sniffing all the holes in the ground and then chasing the soil cores as she is weird and loves it when you throw clumps of mud...
My only criticism of this is that it is quite short and I think it could do with being a bit longer, or have different lengths on offer. I am 5"9 ish and I had to bend considerably to use this and it did cause pain in the back, just slightly longer and it would be ok.
Overall if you need to use a hollow tine Aerator and want one which will get through your lawn and be useful for many uses beyond you should really consider this piece of equipment. It comes highly recommended from me.
