This is a quick and easy way to get a DVR with your HD HomeRun tuner. It works instantly with zero setup. You just plug it into your network and everything just works! I was amazed at how easy it was. There are other options with HD HomeRun including Channels, Plex and recording to a PC but this is hands down the easiest.

Now the HD HomeRun app is unique compared to what you'd be use to coming from Cable or Satelite. But it works well and isn't much of a transition. The key I learned is to use a computer to setup your recordings as the interface works best on a PC or Mac. You just search for what you want to record and setup a Task. You can do all this from the FireTV App but it's just not quite as easy without the mouse and keyboard. Also, support for Roku works fine, you just need to install the beta software (at the time of this writing). The user support community is fantastic and the developers are quick to respond to any questions via email or on the forum.

So the short version is, if you're cord cutting and want something that doesn't require lots setup and just works, this is it!

Unit is very much a plug and play with my existing HomeRun 4 channel receiver. Took a little self-learning to get recordings programmed. Just took a few minutes and everything was up and running.

The SiliconDust HDHomeRun servio 2TB DVR drive is a great addition to my HDHR setup. It was detected and added as soon as it was connected. I didn't have to do any extra configuration and it works perfectly. This drive gives you extra storage space for your recordings and frees up that space on your computer's drive. Only time will tell about the durability, but so far (a couple of months now) it has worked flawlessly.

I *love* how easy it is to install this device. It is truly plug and play, though you should follow the instructions, visit the website and update the firmware to most current version just to get that task knocked out early rather than waiting. Other than that though, set up is really simple: plug network cable into the port on the device, plug other end into a wired connection on your router (or switch or hub) on the same network where your HDHomerun tuner device exists, and plug the power adapter into both this device and your available outlet. That's it. There's no need to configure it, no need to do any complicated setup, no need to tell the HDHomerun tuner device that it is there, and no need to waste any real time on an overly technical configuration process.

Once it exists on the network and the HDHomerun tuner device becomes aware of it, you have made storage available to use with the HDHomerun DVR service. Unfortunately it is only available with that service and can't be used for alternative software solutions you may wish to use. That is a big downside for many as many people have looked at the the HDHomerun DVR solution and found it to be less pleasurable than would be hoped for. It works but the experience could be vastly improved. Improvements take time though, and there are also concerns about not stepping on patents from other players in the space, and that means things are more limited than many would hope for.

In my case this device and the HDHomerun 4K tuner are a bit of a test or toy to use in my home. Training my spousal unit or my daughter to use the tuners that I can make available would be more trouble (at least at this time) than I wish to face. I have existing DVR devices from one of the more prominent names in the space and use those with my FiOS provider. Those work well and are quite familiar for my spouse and my daughter. If costs continue to rise for cable TV service though, I might reduce the costs by going back to use of an HDHomerun Prime with an M-card along with the HDHomerun 4K. That would offer me a fair amount of tuners and ability to record content that we might wish to watch.

Great for capturing and recording all the OTA channels at HD. User interface is a little complicated and not intuitively usable. Takes a little bit to learn how to use it, but still all good.

I bought this and the Connect together in February and after about three months I started to get dvr faulure notices interrupting my programming. The firmware was updated as needed, both devices were in the same network as they were before. I tried using a switch dedicating them together in hopes it would resolve the issue. Still no fix. So I ordered the flex so I could use my own external storage and viola. There has been no issues of dvr failures what so ever. I contacted HDHomeRun to exchange the original two devices for a scribe or flex and still no resolution has been made. The Flex is a solid tuner with very good external storage support capabilities. However, the support for the products themselves are lackluster.

Contacted customer service (email only). It self installs DVR service. There is a login for service but no way to create the account. I can only guess that next year renewal time when I have to buy service an account will be created.

Our family has been using Windows Media Center as our DVR solution for a dozen years and we really like it. Sadly, Microsoft has decided to stop providing an electronic TV program guide for it, so we had to look at other options.

As we rely on the excellent HDHomerun Prime TV tuner from SiliconDust, we decided to get a Servio and try the HDHomeRun DVR service.

The hardware is nice and easy to install, but the user interface is pretty rough compared to WMC.

That said, the solution is functional and we expect that the user interface will be polished over time.
