Editorial Reviews
Review
"Restorative Yoga for Beginners could not be a more intelligent and comprehensive guide to this gentle and nourishing practice. Julia Clarke’s eloquent language pairs seamlessly with the book’s beautiful illustrations, inviting readers to sink into the details and instructions informing each pose. Clarke’s book evokes a desire to explore more calm and conscious movement, and even more so, stillness."—Kim Fuller, Owner and publisher of CO YOGA + Life® Magazine and Spoke+Blossom Magazine
"There are few voices as mesmerizing and accessible as Julia Clarke's. In this book, she breathes those tremendous teaching qualities into the gifts of rest, relaxation, and ease. She makes restorative yoga an approachable art form that everyone can start practicing from day one, and from there build meditative confidence across a lifetime."—Shannon Paige, Founder, Anjali Restorative Yoga

From understanding the physical and psychological gains from the practice, to the actual process of setting up and experiencing the poses, Julia expertly guides the reader through creating an accessible, restful, and balancing restorative yoga experience. Whether one is an experienced practitioner or a beginner, this manual promises to be dog-eared within days of use and a component for a lifetime of balancing the effects of fast-paced, modern living."—Tracey Garcia, M.Ed., Colorado School of Yoga

About the author
Hello! I am a writer and a teacher of yoga and Ayurveda. I recently returned home to Glasgow, Scotland after 20 years living in the US where I got to be many things, including: radio presenter, wine maker, yoga studio owner, university teacher, magazine writer and waitress. Today, I am the author of the book Restorative Yoga for Beginners and am currently working on my next book on Ayurveda when I’m not working as a staff writer for Advnture.com or exploring mountains.
Feel free to skip these boring details: to get where I am today, I earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 2004, a master’s degree in Ayurveda in 2017, lots of yoga certifications including 200 hours at Integral Yoga Institute of New York, 300 hours with Shiva Rea, Yin, Restorative and Prenatal courses, and have just generally been very open to trying new things.
As for what drives me? I’m a champion for using yoga and Ayurveda as means to enjoy your life to the fullest without depletion. Whether I’m cooking with Ayurveda after a morning climbing mountains or relaxing in Restorative Yoga postures after an afternoon at my writing desk, you can be sure that when the times comes, I’m recharged and ready to do more of what I love. Teaching these sciences for me is all about helping to bring you home to a more sustainable way of living so we can all enjoy longer, happier and more fulfilling lives.

From my reading I see my transition will flow from Restorative Yoga to Yin Yoga. I'm enjoying Bernie Clark's The Complete Guide to Yin Yoga. Keep up the good fight, you hear.
