The Nina Ottosson by Outward Hound Interactive Dog Hide N' Slide puzzle game is a fun way to engage your dog's mind and activate their problem solving-skills. This level 2 intermediate puzzle dog toy comes with two types of hiding spots for snacks or kibble for a total of 14 treat compartments: under the swivelling flippers and in the hollow sliding blocks. You can vary the difficulty level by placing treats just under the flipper for newcomers. And once your dog gets the hang of it, you can increase the challenge by placing the treats in the hollow block, and watching your dog try to figure out how to slide it back and forth to release the treat into the flipper compartment. Made from food safe materials that are BPA, PVC and phthalate-free so you can feel safe playing with your dog over and over again! Easy to clean with warm water and soap.

    Cats love it too!
    Well at least one of my 2 cats enjoys digging around for treats. The one in the picture is 10 yrs old and is pretty smart. She took to it right away. My 1 year old has no body home and waits for the older cat to give her treats. I did buy two of this things so they can do it together. But only one cat understands right now.

    These are pretty heavy-duty toys, and definitely do their job of keeping the pup entertained and stimulated. She did break off one the flaps from frustration, but I should have been paying more attention while she was using it. Also, don’t get a toy that you think is just above your dogs ability level, because they’ll just get frustrated and either give up or wreck it, do the steps as recommended and let them get used to that level toy before going up. We tried skipping a level because our dog is crazy smart and that was why she got frustrated and ripped a piece off. Also, some toys in this line have tiny rubber stoppers in the bottom, I recommend either removing them completely or supergluing them in because they pop out easily and present an ingestion hazard.

    As the human trying to put the treats in this, I was confused and needed the instructions.

    My Jack Russell-mix clearly needed no instructions, as it took her less than 5 minutes to have it completely devoid of goodies. I keep buying these puzzles, hoping I can shift between them, that she’ll forget how to solve them and they’ll be a challenge for her. Nope. I’m just teaching her how to outsmart humans. Dog overlords coming to an earth near you, 2024.

    If you also have a JRT or any high-intelligence breed that you can’t keep up with, just go ahead and contact MENSA to see if they allow dogs yet. This isn’t going to keep them entertained for more than the few minutes it takes you to clean up the mess you made setting it up.

The puzzle is a bit fussy to dry after cleaning so we leave it to air-dry overnight after removing as much water as possible. We plan to buy another product at a higher level of difficulty from this line.

     Wolfy can do this puzzle easily but Coda the labradoodle takes much longer to work it out. If you push the little flaps over the holes it gives it a different level of difficulty too. It's robust, looks nice and doesn't get dirty as I use Pet Munchies training treats, although I might put liver paste in to make it last longer with Wolfy! Having said that, he's always very pleased with himself once he's done it & sits back looking smug.
