There are a few stat gathering devices out there, and maybe even a couple that are more accurate or go deeper in stats, but ShotScope is the best option for the dollar. One price covers everything. No recurring fee for the app. This device is essential if you are trying to improve and lower your handicap because it literally tells you what part of your game sucks the most.

After the initial setup which takes a while (you have to screw in the sensors and assign clubs in the app), all you need to do is turn the watch on when you get to the course and follow the prompts. Once the GPS is connected, play your round. All you have to do during the round is click a button on the watch for the number of putts you took after you have holed out on each hole. Even if you forget, you can edit the round later when you get home to add the putts you forgot. You do need your phone in your pocket while you play, which is not a problem for most players.

The accuracy is pretty good. You'll need to add penalty strokes when you edit your round because the watch can't know you hit it in the water. If you're playing by yourself and playing more than one ball, it does get confused. Again, keep your own score and edit later.

When you're done and back home, you'll need to sync the round with your phone. Once that's done, you can go on your PC or laptop and edit the round. You can add or delete shots as necessary (be honest!), and then you can see your stats. This device uses "strokes gained" as its baseline stat. You can change the type of golfer you are comparing yourself to from "tour player" down to "15 handicapper." I was astonished the first time I looked at my stats because I gained strokes in areas I thought I sucked at. Likewise, I sucked where I thought I'm normally solid. This gives you the info you need to target weak spots in your game in practice, which will lower your handicap significantly.

I highly recommend this device for anyone trying to get better at golf.

The watch works great though I've had to have support update most of the courses I've played. Not a big deal it just means I'm not in an area where there's a lot of other Shot Scope users that have already done this. The GPS numbers match up with my range finder very well and it's great to see the distances to different areas of the green, especially when playing blind shots. The shot tracking works well most of the time but you have to be careful to keep the grip of the club out of your watch wearing hand unless you're certain you're going to use that club. I often take 2-3 wedges up to a greenside pitch shot to select the appropriate club after evaluating the lie and shot that I'll need to make and sometimes the watch will mark that I hit a shot with all of them if I'm not careful to not let it sense each club. It does this on putts too and will mark where I've read my putts more accurately than it will where I've actually hit my putts so there's more editing after the round. Not a big deal and you can change the settings to do "manual putting" that would reduce that. I just need to start holding my putter in my other hand when reading the greens and I think that would fix the issue. So far I'm loving the data that the watch collects in general and it's giving me insight into my game that I had never really known. Being able to see exactly what my weaknesses are is huge.

This product has advanced technology which is extremely useful in playing your best golf and improving your game. Shot Scope V3 has been instrumental in reducing my handicap from 16 to 8, along with an online PGA coach. The mobile and desktop software - along with supplemental blog articles by Shot Scope - are extraordinarily useful in improving all aspects of one's game. Data doesn't lie. I was pleased to see I'm top 200 (out of almost 10,000 users) in driving accuracy, but found other - more sizable than imagined - deficiencies to improve on. Easy to use on the course, once pin collection becomes a habit. Don't believe accuracy claims by other writers. Shot Scope uses front/ middle/ back yardages, so of course a laser range finder will be more accurate. Both are useful, Shot Scope provides good estimates and often I don't need to (laboriously) pull out the range finder and shoot. Version 3 shrunk the form-factor to a terrific, readable size and I love this product ... ...having used it for almost a year now.

This is a good concept and the technology works, however it is reliant on proper mapping of courses, and to do this they rely on Google Earth images. My issue is that the course I play on is not properly mapped, due to the Google Earth images being 5 years old and the course being remodeled three years ago. The CSR I am working with is helpful and responsive but unable to solve the issue of old images and didn't have any idea how to get images updated. That left me to do the research (I figured out how to request updates from Google). Because Google responds to the volume of requests, I am now rallying all my friends to also request updates. However, this is a solvable problem for the company. The carts we use at the course have GPS and proper mapping, so somehow they have up-to-date images. Why can't they get the same images? I wanted to see if this is an isolated problem and it isn't. I also looked at the seven courses in Pebble Beach in the US, which is a major golf area and where I play golf 4 months a year, and those maps are also out of date. So, if your course has been recently remodeled, a bunker has been added or removed, or any other changes made, the statistics provided on your play are rendered useless, because the software doesn't know if you're hitting greens/fairways/bunkers or not because it doesn't know where they are. The stats are the reason I bought Shotscope V3, but right now it is just an interesting toy. They need to figure out how to get up to date images for their mapping, as this seems core to their value proposition.

I have used the Shotscope V3 golf watch for the past several golf games. I have the GPS to be very accurate and easy to use. Tracking which club I use is also good. It picks up my club and each stroke that I take. My only complaint is that the watch does not allow you to check your score during any point of the game. You have to download the information into a device to extract all the information. I checked all the FAQs and that’s the conclusion I came to. However, after one downloads your round there is more information than a recreational golfer might need. It would be very useful for golfers who want to measure each aspect of their game.
