The best Hard Sci-Fi TV Series since BSG
5 Stars
The best Hard Sci-Fi TV Series since BSG
After watching the show, I will definitely read the books. Hell, if the cancellation of the show is not reversed at some point I will buy all the books, novellas and short stories. There is just too much incredible material here that the comparison with Game of Thrones is absolutely accurate. This is the best hard Sci-Fi universe to be adapted into a TV series since BSG. The TV series on this season lifts off a little slowly on the first 3 episodes but your patience is rewarded by what comes after that. And from season 2 onwards it is just top-notch, scientifically accurate, world-builing and space-faring geopolitics. Finally a Sci-Fi show that is intelligent and visionnary. The first season has 76% fresh rattings on Rotten Tomatoes. You will binge it with pleasure. Guaranteed!

I always put this one off. I’m Unsure why. The Expanse is the new Tr*k, S-Wars and some other lesser-known Space experiences that is a guaranteed to satisfy! Once I started, I could not stop. Binged for a few weeks all 6 seasons! The Expanse has been the best vacation in space I've had in a long time! Get to know the people. They go a long way together and getting to know them is one of the best parts. The characters, scenes and sci-fi tech is out of this world! Great Job Amazon! Can't wait for some more!

If you're looking for deep characters, political intrigue, and hard sci-fi, this is a must-watch. The cast, crew, and writers put much love into this show, and it really shines through. The world-building is complex, and it takes many people a few episodes to get into it ( try up to at-least episode 4).

I attempted to watch this series several times and could never get past the first episode. It wasn't until the very last episode was streamed (2022?) that I began watching and became hooked. I guess I just wasn't ready to be immersed in the politics and drama of 'The Expanse', but when I was, it was a great ride! The world building and conflicts of the more realistic and gritty race for power and resources was captivating. Great performances by some seasoned actors. A shame the series got bounced around, but I'm glad Amazon picked it back up. I hope they (or anyone else) continues the series at a later date. Highly recommend.

Update 02-25-2024 ---

I've just watched the entire series all the way through again. This must be my fifth or sixth time. Everytime I watch it, I get something significant out of it that I missed during my previous watchings.

I've been watching television since the 1950s. This series is by far the finest, the best, of all time.

Previously - --

I don't know how long ago I wrote the review below. Read my update above.
Every time I search through Prime Video to find something good to watch, I always come back to The Expanse ... over and over and over again. Nothing else even comes close. I have watched this series all the way through so many times that I've even lost count. Four times? Five times? Even more? Every time I watch it again I pick up something I didn't see or quite understand during previous rounds. If you haven't gotten into the series yet, don't hesitate to get started. You'll be hooked. There is so much to it, so much detail, though it all fits together and makes perfect sense. You just have to pay close attention. One suggestion would be to pull up the Expanse Wiki on a separate tab in your brower for use in keeping things straight.

Nothing is perfect. Two things I very much disliked about it. First, the presentation of the character Marco Inaros as it was performed by the actor who played that part. That whisper voice he employed is like fingernails on a chalkboard. Most annoying. During his scenes, mute the volume and turned on subtitles. Along with is horrible acting was the funky Elvis costume they put in, plus the eyeliner makeup or whatever they put on him. The second dislike was that same whisper voice, but this one from the character Fred Johnson. How annoying.

But watch it. Get into it. Enjoy it.

The first time I watched this and the second season I didn't have much of an opinion about it. But watching it a second time through I enjoy it a lot more. I think I like the universe that they've created more than the particular story. Although the particular story mainly comes in season 2. Season 1 is basically setting up the universe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Im Weltraum hört dich niemand schreien

I can't really pull the first season from the second or third. They all mesh so well together that if you buy one you need to buy the rest. I watched them originally on Amazon Prime and had to buy the Bluray to share it with family who are on limited bandwidth. Plus you get extras that might not be seen on Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping, gritty realism!
Reviewed in Japan on July 10, 2020
There's nothing else like it. Sci-fi that lays out a future in which we have become a multi-planetary species, but not developed any of the hard-to-substantiate aspects of Star Trek, like phasers, transporters, warp-drive, artificial gravity, a common quest for self-improvement, or etc. Instead, we have enormous inequalities among the peoples of Earth, and among the communities/colonies in the solar system, and the efforts of some to improve their own vs others' lives. Add to that a monster conspiracy and characters that can be seen to grapple with it all as they try to figure out who's side they're on. You won't be able to stop at season one - you've really got to see where all this goes!
