Product Description
Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) is a tricky but harmless fast-talker. But he knows how to have fun, which is exactly what he sets out to do when he feigns illness and talks his parents into letting him stay home from school. The perpetually lucky Ferris enlists his hypochondriac best friend, Cameron Frye (Alan Ruck), into springing his girlfriend, Sloane Peterson (Mia Sara), from class, and the three embark on a raucous downtown Chicago adventure. From Wrigley Field to the Art Institute of Chicago to a Polish pride parade, Ferris and his friends make the most of their day off. But Ferris, Sloane, and Cameron might not get away with playing hooky. Ferris's sister, Jeanie (Jennifer Grey), is determined to prove that Ferris is faking sick and make him pay for it, and the bumbling school dean, Ed Rooney (Jeffrey Jones), is sure that Ferris is pulling a fast one. Another classic from writer-director John Hughes (SIXTEEN CANDLES, THE BREAKFAST CLUB), this film features a star turn from Broderick as the charismatic Ferris. Watch for Charlie Sheen as the juvenile delinquent in the police station and comedian Louie Anderson in a brief appearance as a flower deliveryman.

Ferris Is one of the greatest heroes of all time and he joins the ranks of Indiana jones, Atticus Finch, Yoda, and the Batman . Ferris Bueller also knows how to make people happy and can even make friends with the Hardened, antisocial Cameron. Ferris Bueller seems like an all around good person making people happy and teaching them life lessons while doing so. Ferris is also pure good and is so selfless that he actually wants to take the blame when Camron destroys his father's car in a fit of rage. Luckily some of Ferris's magnanimous nature rubbed of on Camron so he took the blame himself. I believe that we can all be like generous Ferris and that doing so would make the world a much better place.
Also, the shooting script for this movie contains MANY deleted scenes and dialogue, some of which were a GREAT read and are bound to have been filmed. Ferris going through the house looking for money in some STRANGE places (all while the Pink Floyd tune "Money" was playing), as well as Cameron's dad seeing his 1961 Ferarri being driven through Chicago's streets by the two parking garage employees would have been GREAT to see. However, the ONLY deleted scene we get here is a behind-the-scenes version of the waiter at Chez Qui telling the trio that the food they were eating was pancreas (which of course was referred to later by Ferris in the taxi). No true special edition DVD should be without a deleted scenes section. VERY disappointing.
Next, this edition (like the original) does NOT include a theatrical trailer. It's rare for even a bare bones DVD not to include at least one trailer, but nearly UNHEARD of for a special edition! It's bound to still exist, and I can't beleive that it's THAT
I consider Ferris Bueller to be a fantasy and so I don't hold it to the standards of absolute reality that some who don't like it do. Sure, his mom after coming home to check on him would not just look in the doorway. And sure, no one would be allowed to jump on a parade float nor would a German parade float happen to have a copy of the Beatles' Twist and Shout on hand. But it made one of the most memorable scenes of 80's cinema, and that's more valuable than cold reality. Ferris's day would probably take two days to actually do, what with the Cubs game, Sears Tower, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, the fancy restaurant and the parade. The Cubs game alone would have probably taken a whole afternoon, but who cares? It's all great fun.
It's also well-acted by everyone involved from Cameron Frye's neurotic and repressed Cameron to Jeffrey Jones' comic villain role as Principal Rooney. Even Ben Stein scores memorability in his brief role of the economics teacher. Techincal aspects like script, camera work and editing are all of a high standard. The film moves along briskly for its almost two hour time.
