What a fine film filled a great deal of emotional impact! What makes it even more relevant is that it is a true story based on the book by the central character. The interview with the author and the actor who plays him in the Bonus is insightful.

Both Jim Parsons and Ben Aldridge are perfect in the roles of the couple and there is great chemistry between them. Sally Field is superb in her role as the mother of Ben Aldridge’s character.

The editing is excellent. The film never drags but rather develops through the actions of the actors. There is a touching music soundtrack.

The film is indeed touching but is never maudlin. The fact that the viewer knows from the beginning of the film that Ben’s character is going to die, it does not detract from the intensity of the drama.

After viewing the film, I am inspired to read the autobiographical book on which the film is based.

One of the best films of the year! Highly recommended! Keep the tissue box close by!

I loved this movie! You all know what it’s about. Hey, it’s in the title and there really isn’t going to be any surprise happy endings. The film is based on a book which is the true story of Kit and Michael. It is lovely, gentle and sweet. But the guys aren’t perfect, so be prepared for that.

The only complaint I have is with the film’s quality. It has the feel of an afternoon special. I would have gladly paid more for the DVD for a better quality film. Since I don’t have a DVD player, I had to watch a faded out film. This in no way changes the way I feel about this fine movie. But grab your hankies. Even this old bird shed a tear or two!

I don't consider this movie an excellent 5 star movie but it is good and it was worth my time watching. However, please be warned. If you do not like tearjerker movies then do not watch this movie. If I would have known it was going to be like that I would not have watched it.

I don’t often write reviews on Amazon. This is one exception. I’m saying that to make sure everyone knows I mean it when I say that both my husband and myself loved this movie. We watched the blu-ray, imported it all the way to the Netherlands. We can confirm the disc is region free. The book the movie is based on was already excellent (we actually met the writer in New York when he did his book signing), and the movie remained loyal to that. Good lead actors, an amazing Sally Field. Emotions all over the place in the best way possible. It’s a realistic gay love story and as a gay man myself: there are not many around. Watch this one!

I'm 81yrs old—gay man. On December 20, 2022, my partner and husband died. He was 75 yrs old. We've been together for 46 yrs. I had read about this movie for a while. But with the death of my husband, I became very interested. So I bought it. And sat alone and watched. I have read some reviews that like it, and then others hate it. What surprised me was that the bad reviews were in GLBTQ material.
This is hard to watch, but it struck a cord. But as the title of the book says, "spoiler Alert...The Hero dies. My hero died too.
