I had an ankle fusion 3 wks ago and have been resting on this during the day and sleeping on it night. I could not have done this with a pile of pillows. Foam is firm enough to hold legs, but soft enough to allow for calf. I have a sheepskin and twin sheet over mine for more cushioning and to keep it clean.
I am 5'3" and my thighs are just long enough to reach the top of the wedge. Any shorter and I think it would be too tall for me (but of course I have the sheepskin on it, too).
Update 3-1/2 yrs later. This is still like new, despite the fact that I put it on and take it off my bed twice a day. holding it by the thin end at the sides (probably not optimal). I got it for an ankle fusion and my doc said I had one of the best results he had seen, with good, solid bone with lots of calcium. (I am not a young person who heals like magic, either.) He thought my keeping it elevated as much as I did made the difference. I even slept on it at night for a full 3 months (when I directly asked him what length of time would be optimal, this is what he told me to do).
4.5 yrs later, it is still in perfect condition after being put on and off the bed twice a day for a few yrs. The cover has shifted sideways. I no longer use the sheepskin, just the wedge and I must drag the cover. It is still clean, but I wish it had a removable cover that I could straighten out. The cover is remarkably thin and cheap-looking (but has not torn) for such a durable wedge of foam.
This is high-enough that it gets your lower legs/feet fully above your heart, which is what you need for really excellent circulation and to get rid of or prevent edema.
I asked my surgeon how long it was helpful to use this, and he said, "honestly, for as long as you have your cast" (8 wks). It keeps my ankle above my heart (the real meaning of "elevated") in a comfortable way.
My large cat did settle in on my good ankle and spread himself out, so that I woke with just 1/2" left before my cast fell off the platform! It is really plenty wide for 2 legs, but I suggest you tuck your casted leg in on the outside edge, just to be sure.
2017 update.I have used this wedge since 2013, now 3x/day to do my eye drops. It has held up perfectly, without any signs of wear. I throw a towel over it when I use it to keep the cover clean, as the cover looks flimsy and hard to get off/on.
This is truly medical-quality foam and worth the price.

Great relief from Edema by using the Elevating Leg Rest with a White Poly-cotton Cover

I happened to have had a harsh fall, which caused great damaged to two major veins in my one leg in two different areas. This caused the lack of circulation of the blood throughout both of the legs. Therefore, the outcome was edema (fluid) setting into both legs, but especially within the injured leg. Within 3 days my weight increased from 188 lbs. to over 220 lbs. I was not able to even wear a shoe on the injured leg because of the swelling.In my research I came across an excellent article through Google that in such cases the leg must be elevated above the heart level, since the edema fluid gravitates to the lower points of the body which is to the legs, with the legs elevated the fluid then gravitated to the central area of my body where the fluid would be in the proper area to be dispensed to the proper organs. As continued to research for a medical apparatus and I hit the Amazon Website, which I happen to be an avid Amazon Prime consumer. The link directed me to the Elevating Leg Rest with a White Poly-cotton Cover on the Amazon Website. As I continued to look at numerous different types of Leg Rest, considering their shape, size, height, width and length that would be compatible to my height (which happens to be 6 feet and 1 inch). I finally came to the conclusion that the “Elevating Leg Rest with a White Poly-cotton Cover” ASIN: B0024GX6G8 was for me. Even though the height was only 14 inches high, I felt compelled to place two firm standard size pillows on the Elevated Leg Rest to increase the high which added an extra 6 inches or more.Of course I had consulted with my Doctors regarding this situation and idea which they were in total agreement with my decision. My injury initially took place the beginning of the second week of June, I ordered the Elevating Leg Rest July 29, 2016, but because of the weekend it was delivered on August 2nd, it is now August 29th and over the past month I have seen an enormous change in both legs. Since I already had poor circulation due to problems from a heart condition; for a number of years I have been battling with edema in my one leg where the veins were damaged in a fall, prescription did help to a point by did not make such a change until after using the Elevated Leg Rest. During the first two weeks of using the Elevating Leg Rest I saw a very slow change in my weight, although the swelling from the edema was slowly decreasing, but it was not as bad as it originally had been, although it had improved to the point that I was able to wear a shoe on my injured leg.
