William and Harry: Behind the Palace Walls Kindle Edition

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 145 ratings

William and Harry is a fascinating insight into the lives and loves of two extraordinary young men who have captured not only the hearts and minds of not only the British public, but those the world over. This is the definitive book about the princes, bringing their story right up to date. It is the tale of two brothers who have carried the legacy of their mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, into the twenty-first century and on whom the future of the House of Windsor largely depends.

Drawing on her unique set of contacts Katie Nicholl recounts the royal brothers' extraordinary lives and reveals William and Harry's real characters as they become front-line soldiers and modern princes. Through her network of sources, some of which have agreed to speak for the very first time, Katie tells the story of one of Prince William's earliest romances, and his struggle with his destiny as a future King of England. As a royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton seems more probable, Katie has spoken to a wealth of contacts close to the couple who reveal how their love affair really started at St Andrews, the hurdles the pair overcame and the challenges they still face. She recounts the story of Harry's time at Eton, his relationship with Chelsy Davy, and his three months he spent on the front line in Afghanistan. She analyses William and Harry's complex relationship with their father, and the woman who will one day become Queen Camilla. She talks to their friends, contemporaries and confidants to paint a unique and revealing portrait of the two most famous brothers in the world.

Review

Classically trained actress/Audie Award winner Justine Eyre's narration is excellent, incorporating the spirit of all of Nicholl's breathless confidences. Great adult listening; an essential acquisition.-- "Library Journal Starred Audio Review"

This book was easy to read. Each chapter focused on one of the boys and progressed nicely. The book even has some pictures. I enjoyed the book and I think I understand William and Harry much better.

Wasn't sure when I downloaded this onto my Kindle if I would like it or not. But this is just a great book into the lives of William and Harry so far. What wonderful "men" they have turned out to be - and it also shows their achievements, humor (the Queen's cell phone message by Harry), the good times and the bad.
I can't imagine anyone interested in this family would be disappointed with this book. Love those "boys" !!!

An interesting read, entertaining, but certainly nothing even a non anglophile American has not read or heard before.. I would recommend it to anyone who is so fascinated by these two young princes, that they just cannot get enough of them. But as I said interesting, not terribly revealing of two young men who constantly work to protect their personal lives from the public. Certainly nothing new about Princess Diana or Camilla.

I have been interested in the Royal Family for a long time. I have read books written by other people in their lives. I read about Philip & Elizabeth, and a novel about the Roley Secret. I found that "Behind The Palace Walls" is an even more detailed look at the lives of the princes when they were young. I have enjoyed all these books. I feel like the Royal family are my personal friends. I go to the websites of each palace and explore to see what I can learn about them. "Behind The Palace Walls" has been a good addition to my quest to learn as much about this very interesting family as I can. I recommend it.

I bought the Kindle & book version because I want to share it in case the book turns out good. Final verdict - I am sharing the book to a friend who will appreciate the simple & detailed account of the early years of William & Harry. Although much have been written about these two young men - this book's wonderful description is such an joy to read.

The writing style of this book was wonderful! It wasn't too dry/formal or gossipy/papprazi style...it was just right, and it brought the personalities of William and Harry to life for the reader brilliantly!

Also, this is first book I have ever read on William and Harry that actually focused on them...not they're parents!

The only thing I have against about this book...I wish the author could have waited just a bit longer, so that she could have included the events that have happened in the past few months that led to the engagment of Prince William and Catherine Middleton.

The emphasis she places in both princes acceptance of Camilla Parker Bowls is a strong indication of her bias and it is very hard to believe. If her version is true then both sons, who have been reared by the royal family, have been swallowed up by the unfair and untruthful account of the role Camilla played in Diana and Charles separation and final divorce. I think Nicholl knows better than that.

Imagine having to go through what they went through, no one can. But Katie Nicholl did a fabulous job of telling us. Thank you for a great book. Mourning the death of your mother is hard enough, but going through it under the constant and relentless spotlight is torture. I'm so glad that both William and Harry came through the terrible ordeal as well as they did, but they should have had the privacy to mourn, and I'm upset that the media never let them do that. They had each other and because of that they survived.
