I see alot of older reviews on here and I myself only recently tried the app myself on a firestick. Upon downloading and installing the app I was instantly able to watch clips of various shows and other content, upon trying to watch recent full Episodes I had recently missed on cable of Ancient Aliens and Hanger 1, I noticed they had a key next to them and upon clicking I was given a code and instructions that had to be carried out with a computer.

I follwed the address history.com/activate and clicked my device "firestick" than had to select my cable provider from a drop down list, I was then redirected to my providers wensite to log in, once logged in I received a activated message with a congratulations.

Upon returning to the firestick on my TV I was happy to find the episode I had selected was playing in glorious HD. I couldnt be happier with the app because now I can watch these shows anywhere in my house without a box and could install the same app on a tablet and use my phone as a wifi hotspot if I ever wanted to watch while camping.

Please note that you do have to have cable or sattelite for the app to work in full as intended in regards to watching these full episodes so you may be dissapointed if you think your going to gain free content. However if you already have a service provider and going in with this knowledge you should find alot of enjoyment from the app. I have KODI on my computer and firestick and many of these shows are not current so this app was a must for me and it succeeds in giving me content tailored to my interest.

I am a low vision user and sometimes have issues finding things to listen to. However I have always loved the history channel and all the different shows. I can sit here and listen to them on my fire tan and they come through excellent. I don’t have to try to find them on the cable television or whatever also by using it in my fire 10 I can control everything about it the sound etc. Whatever I need to do a lot more easy than it is to do on the television. I am an analog person living in a digital world with low vision :-) it creates a challenge but this channel comes through with shining stars. So I have written this with my Siri sorry for any inappropriate or strange words thank you for taking the time to read my review I’m sure you’ll enjoy this channel and have greater knowledge someday maybe you can go on the game show and win big box based on what you’ve seen on this channel :-) have a great day be well take care

This app used to be phenomenal. But, ever since they've gone to an "inserted advertising" model, it's been pure garbage. My issues with this app are twofold, but related :

First, the number of inserted advertisements. The play bar shows, on average, 5 inserted commercial breaks in a 40-minute episode. What they don't show are the 'pop - up' adverts that often come in the middle. Whether these are database artifacts, or intentional to ensure revenue, I honestly feel (I can't prove, for reasons I'll get into in a moment) that there are more commercials while viewing episodes on my Fire Stick than if I were to watch it on broadcast, which is odd to me because watching it on the Fire Stick, I'm paying for Amazon Prime, the Stick itself, and the cable subscription... So I'm paying more and getting less.

Which brings me to my second issue. Crashes. Crashes, crashes, and more crashes. During the commercials before the show, at almost every commercial break, sometimes multiple times during a break, I experience slowdowns, buffering, and crashing, sometimes crashing my device, other times just the app. I can't even make it through an episode to count the number of inserted adverts, because of all the crashing and weirdness. "But it's not our fault!" Well, I have several other network apps (NBCSN, Discovery GO, etc), and they don't have this problem. I have a Plex server (running on my LAN) and it doesn't have this problem. I use YouTube and Twitch on this device, and they don't have this problem. I know that my Fire Stick isn't the most robust device, but I've tried this on multiple platforms, with multiple configurations, and it's not my hardware. My guess is that the scripts handling History's advertising database are poorly-written, causing incompatible format errors, and a cascading failure memory hole. As an example, I've gotten ads in other languages, ads asking me to "click here to learn more", and, obviously, ads that have nothing to do with me (not every male in America has trouble 'getting it up', why is every third commercial for Cialis?). On the technical side of things, a brief mention of the verification debacle: seems as though History's database is so bad, they lose provisioning verification, forcing me to revalidate roughly every three weeks, or after they do an update, or when their system goes down, or a hundred other hiccups.

TL; DR:
Pros : some solid series worth keeping up with
Cons: "blood from a stone" marketing scheme, multitudes of technical issues

Verdict : avoid this app until significant improvement is made. Reduce or eliminate inserted advertising (we're already paying for programming) and/or improve data handling.
