This, plus the case I got for the phone, fits almost perfectly together.
I got this cause although wireless charging will degrade my battery over time faster than plugging in, I prefer that over having to replace cables, and charging ports.
The phone itself, currently, already lasts long enough to keep me entertained while I'm at work. (I work at UPS, loading trailers. So I can listen to YouTube all shift if I want, and I do)
I bring this charger in with me as a backup. It's perfect for my needs.
It lasts more than long enough for me. I only need to charge it every other week.
(Maybe once a week if I forget to charge my phone before work a few times that week)
After learning how the wireless charging part worked, it was easy to use.
(Press the button to wake the charger. Place the phone or other Qi charging device on it. A red LED will light up next to the "25%" LED, making it look purple. That red LED means that the charger senses a Qi charging device, and is charging it. If you remove the device, the charger will stay awake for some time. (I think a minute or so) Then it will go back to sleep. If you put the device back on before then, it will activate the Qi charging pad again!)
When plugged in, using Anker's lightning cable, the phone charges quickly! (I only use this when I really need a quick charge. Otherwise, I try and rarely plug in, to save the life of the port.)
I LOVE Anker's products. Always great quality, and working perfectly.
I've got their table-top Qi charger, their car air vent mounted Qi charger, and now this power bank Qi charger!
Along with a few of their flashlights, some cables, and 2 other power banks!
Any time I need something USB related, I always check to see if Anker has it first.
Original Review:
I've had this power bank for a while now and used it several times. I like that I can charge wirelessly and that it's thin enough to hold in my hand with my phone on top of it. But any time I use it for more than a few minutes, my phone eventually shuts down on it's own and has to be started back up manually. I have a couple of other, older power banks and this never happens with those - just this one. I really wanted this to become my primary power bank, but the shut downs it causes really prevent that. Bummer, too - I love all of my other Anker products.
One issue is that wireless charging is great when the phone is not in use, however while on the phone for work the phone charges very slowly over wireless. This is of course due to the wireless charging power transfer occurring slower than with wired, and the power drain from the phone being active almost cancels it out. This isn’t a defect, it’s just that wireless charging transfers less power.
Beyond that, the only other issue I found was that when I place the phone on the battery it doesn’t automatically start charging like my other wireless chargers do. I have to press the button on the side to make it start charging first. If it automatically activated the charging that would be better.
The 10k mAh capacity is nothing astounding, but is sufficient for charging a phone a couple times, or a lighter device like a watch, or bluetooth earbuds, potentially many times. The two USB type-A charging ports are certainly better than only having one port, but in 2020 it's a bit disappointing to have a type-C port that only works for charging the powerbank, itself. That said, type-C is a step up from the micro-B that Anker battery banks have traditionally used for charging, so I understand why the choice may have been made to include it even knowing the likely reaction of customers to demand that it include power delivery. (As I will be doing, shortly.)
The wireless charger, as the main feature of this battery bank... is a little disappointing. It cannot charge at higher than 5w, which means that for phones and similarly power-heavy devices, charging will perhaps take longer than preferable. That said, if you only plan to use the wireless charging for devices like bluetooth earbuds and smart watches, many cannot accept higher current Qi charging, anyway; my Samsung Galaxy Buds+, I believe, top out at 5v 600mA input, so 10w charging or higher would not improve charging times in that situation.
However, for phones and the like, higher power Qi charging makes a significant difference. I can only speculate as to the engineering constraints that prevented it's inclusion in this version; perhaps heat dissipation was a major concern, or the additional bulk was considered unacceptable, or the efficiency losses led to a perceived greatly lower capacity in terms of delivered charge to devices-As with the lack of typc-C power delivery, I understand that it's not generally as easy as, "just adding the feature." That said, I would personally be willing to accept a slightly bulkier battery bank, if it meant that it included better wireless charging capabilities.
As for the lack of type-C charging, I would offer that Anker perhaps reevaluate the port situation; if they added type-C power delivery, I imagine that most customers that are interested in niche products like this, in 2020, would be happy with one type-A port, as long as the type-C also works to charge devices. The difficulties with implementing thus, I imagine, are primarily cramming all the needed circuity in the small volume available, and sufficiently dissipating heat generated by the circuitry. To handle this, for the next revision of this product, perhaps the type-C charging could max out at 15w, as I doubt many people would seriously buy a 10K mAh battery with the expectation of charging a laptop. (Though, I suppose, I may be overestimating.) In any case, type-C device charging AT ALL is the important part, more than the charging being high-current.
Overall, the battery bank is a good product, and one with practical applications in everyday life, but is limited by certain engineering choices that keep it from living up to it's full potential as a means to do away with carrying cords, unless you are also willing to accept a noticeable reduction in charging rate for high-power devices. Also, the lack of type-C device charging is a bit disappointing, but it's still better than micro-B input. 4/5 stars; heartily looking forward to a possible future revision.
TL;DR:
Its good, but somewhat lacking. I want this (https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerCore-Portable-10000mAh-Delivery/dp/B082WD5TY8/) but with 15w wireless charging.
