If you liked the feel of the older Moto phones (and the alarm and notification sounds), this one still has that friendly, fun vibe. It lags sometimes, but just in a minor way. As long as you don't push it too hard, it works as nice as a more expensive phone. Just know it doesn't feel cheap by any means.

I have flagship phones, but got this one as a spare and to have bedside if I needed to browse the Internet. Fit and finish is great. It looks beautiful in white. I got it in December 2019 when it went down to $180. AMAZING DEAL. Even at $300, it's a great phone if you don't use processor or graphics-intensive apps, but since it's older, I'd say wait until it goes down in price again, because you can get something newer and more powerful for a bit more.

I installed a Poetic Affinity case and it felt good in the hand. After owning it for a few months, I gifted it to a non-techy friend that lost his iPhone 5. His wife loved the G7, and it has been working great for him since then. It still looks brand new. He has taken impressive pictures with it, too. I'm into photography and have 15 years of hobby experience; the pictures really impressed me. The way he composed the scenes made them look like magazine shots.

The camera does need to be learned in order to avoid its weaknesses, since it's obviously not a flagship phone. Digital zoom and low light obviously kill the image quality. It does yield beautiful JPEGs in good light, but the pictures look way better if you take them in DNG format and edit them to your liking, and use a better noise reduction software.

The ONLY thing I dislike about this phone, the only one, is that the screen's contrast ratio isn't great. Blacks look grayish. The screen has lots of IPS glow. It's not AMOLED like the older Moto phones, but even by LCD standards, those blacks literally look grayish. It does have nice colors and gets bright, plus it's 1080p so it looks really sharp and clear. Doesn't look like a budget phone screen. Believe me! It looks very nice. Other than the poor black levels, it didn't look worse quality-wise than my Samsung Galaxy S10+ or LG G8, but just way less impressive.

If you are not a power user, such as a person that's editing 4K videos or playing graphics-intensive games or strictly using it as your main photography tool, this could be your primary phone. Data speeds on T-Mobile's LTE are fast, and it operates smoothly besides the occasional lag. It's light in weight, too, but feels solid. Get you a nice case and 3 tempered glass protectors and you'll be set for a couple years without spending much.

This is the smartphone to get when you're on a budget but don't want to miss out or feel like compromising. Peace!

I have been an apple phone user since 4, but I have been rocking the 6plus since it came out. The 6plus was great at the time but very outdated...but I ran Into the issue of price. I love apple phones ...but as I have aged some I would rather spend money on other options in life. There is no way I'm paying 1k for a new iPhone and I'm not even up for paying 4-500 for like a 7 or 8. I was stuck...then I saw this phone in sale before Christmas...it was less then 2bills and looked great and had decent reviews. I took the leap ...and I am soooo glad I did....now only comparing it to a 6plus ...this phone rocks...camera upgrade was so huge for me I love it...I know it's still not state of the art but nice...super fast ...no slow downs...no issues with wifi etc..the screen is bright and beautiful !! The turbo charge they mention is for real it takes like 15-20mjns and my phone goes from. Like 10% to like almost full...my iPhone would take forevvvaaa. I only will occasionally fire up a game on a phone anymore and I loaded up some graphically intensive games and this phone didn't flinch...I don't use the fingerprint thing so no idea if that works or not ...only down side to this phone is the Android software...I'm getting used to it but Apple is definitely better...but for the price I will adapt and it isn't like painful or anything 8)
Took it to my verizon store and he popped out SIM card from iphone and out in this one and no issues at all. Now my wife has an iPhone x and it definitely is a bit better but it was 1k when she got it ...I'll take this for 175 or so and buy and new ps5 inthe future with the savings ..and a game...and an extra controller...and put the change in the bank....love this phone ...

    Good:
Great performance with almost no bloat. Theres some amazon apps and alexa pre installed. I dont use alexa but have prime so i use the other apps. Full control of what notifications show up unlike some budget phones. Came from a samsung galaxy S8 and mainly do the basics FB, youtube, instagram, tinder, with a few games and multitask between them and it feels just the same for that.

I turn off all animations in developer options. They're not necessary and just slow u down.

Screen is great. 1080p should be standard on all phones. And none of that terrible screen curving that the samsung phones have that make it hard to tap on the screen when there's a screen protector.
    Adaptive brightness has been fine.

    Sound is fine
    Battery is fine.
(Small side rant) All phones nowadays have nonremovable batteries which is terrible because any phone, flagship or not, will loose charge over 2or3 years and then need to be replaced or dumped. And if u do replace the battery you loose any water resistance guarantee so might as well get midrange.

Moto's Launcher is too basic. I switched to using Microsoft Launcher so i'm ok. (And i dont have to deal with other launchers with free/paid versions or ads)

Cases to buy: theres a good selection of em. I couldnt find an underwater/waterproof one like some flagships

    Bad:
Camera is bad. I tried to take pictures of a presentation on display with a projector indoors and there was consistently strange color banding.
Night shots without much light will suck. Example would be trying to take photos of my friend's indoor stage musical performance. Test out the camera at a store first to see if it seems adequate to your needs.

For me the game Clash of clans disconnects from wifi and crashes with a frozen brown tint sometimes(once every 2 weeks?)
A daily/weekly scheduled option to restart phone would be nice. My old Samsung galaxy s8 had this and i think all phones should. Some apps like Samsung Health will continually crash if phone is on for too many days. Having 200+ apps and most likely there'll be a few badly developed ones. There are some apps that require root that can do this but i didnt want to root so i just set a phone reminder for myself to do it.

    No NFC
I thought i might care about this more and i realized i can get by without it. Many credit cards are becoming tap to pay and you can get a fitbit or other smartwatch with NFC.

There are some other small ui refinements in samsung and lg phones that i do miss but nothing that cant be solved through software:
crappy ringtone and alarm sounds? Go download em.
Camera app not great? Go download a different one.
Daily wallpaper changer? Use the one in microsoft launcher or download google wallpaper app.
Missing an all app button on the launcher? Download a different launcher
The moto launcher has u swiping from bottom for seeing all apps but swiping is more effort than tapping and for a phone i want my controls and nav keys infront of me on the home screen unlike a desktop. If u want minimalist view so u can see a whole background just keep a postcard in your pocket w that background j/k.

    Overall good budget minded phone.
