Failed to Pair on Multiple Devices

Failed to Pair on Multiple Devices
Product setup is horrendous. Following the instructional pamphlet and the ones given via the app leads to nowhere. FYI you must be connected to a 2.4GHz network. It then asks to set it into pairing mode, and then connect to its WiFi network (named eufy Smart Plug-xxxx). After connecting you must go back to the app and await the pairing process. Except that’s the problem. As soon as it starts pairing and progress goes past 10%, the plug will switch out of pairing mode and you will lose its WiFi network. Once the pairing progress reaches 100% (which can take minutes) it’ll tell you it failed to connect and to check network band type, and if the password is correct. I have currently tried this on three different iOS devices running different iOS versions. Yet to no avail, I am left with the same frustrating experience. Unfortunately, I did not set this up as soon as I got it so it is outside the return window. I even tried contacting customer support and received no word. As a fan of Eufy products, I am severely disappointed.TLDR; Either I received a lemon, or there are software bug issues. Pairing ends in failure. It’s better buying the Amazon Alexa branded smart plugs or paying extra for a different smart plug.

Have owned 4 of these for about a month now - plugged into various lamps in my home. They are great products (along with every other Anker/Eufy product I own). I used to have several lights around my house on basic mechanical timers. While they certainly worked well enough, you were locked in to the preset schedules as they were tedious to adjust. The flexibility of programming on/off times for these Eufy Smart Plugs on your phone, or simply switching them on and off at will via the app, Google Home, or Alexa is great - especially when you've got multiple devices. I can shut off or turn on all the lights at once (after grouping them on the Google Home App) instead of having to walk around the house and turn them on/off one by one. For only about $13 each, they are a really nice and reasonably priced creature comfort.

Pros:
1) Reasonably priced.
2) Easy to set up.
3) Scheduling works very reliably.
4) Easy Google Home and (presumably) Amazon Alexa integration.
5) No hub required.
6) Away/vacation mode that will randomize on/off times to give the home a lived-in appearance.
7) Monitoring of electrical consumption.
8) They seem to be very well made and sturdy.
9) Supports up to 1800W appliances (if I recall correctly).
10) Manual button right on top of the unit for easy on/off switching.

Cons:
1) (Small con) Larger than 2nd gen version, so it covers an area above the outlet. I always put mine in the top outlet, so it leaves the lower outlet unobstructed. If you do that, there's no problem whatsoever, assuming your outlet is flush with the wall and not recessed in some unusual setup. Bottom line is it should be no problem in the typical home installation.
2) (May be a Google Home issue) Sometimes Google Home won't find the device, but if you ask it a second time, it usually works. Interestingly if the command "Turn off the Kitchen Lamp" doesn't work on a particular day, immediately following up with "Turn off the lamp in the kitchen" does work. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to this, but switching the phrases around always seems to fix the problem. Go figure. I really think this is a google issue and not a Eufo Smart Plug issue.
3) No IFTTT integration. Hopefully that will come in due time. This could help solve #4 below.
4) No dusk to dawn setting to adjust on/off times based on sunrise and sunset. You'll have to go and adjust your on/off times manually via the app as the days get shorter/longer throughout the year.

UPDATE: Dec 28 2017
It has been a couple of weeks and the smart plug is still working well. This plug does not drop WiFi connection like other smart devices I own. Still very happy with this purchase.

The smart plug is smaller then other smart plugs I have and does not consume all of a standard wall outlet. You put this smart plug in the top socket and you can still use the bottom socket. I would not recommend this for outdoor use as it does not appear to be waterproof.

It has a simple ON/OFF button at the top. There is a small blue recessed blue light that shows if the plug is on or off and also indicates network status.

The plug is very solid and build quality appears to be very good.

Configuring the switch is done using the EufyHome app. The app works well once you have created an account, but you do have to shut off cellular in order to configure the smart plug (or Any other Eufy smart devices) . Once configured, you can the add it to Amazon echo or Google Home.

The slightly weak point of the product is the EufyHome app (At least for my Galaxy S7). The login (or Create Account) function is difficult to use as the Email and Password fields are partially off screen so you cannot see what you type for the first couple of characters. Once you have your account created, the rest of the app works fine.

Using the EufyHome app, you can
Turn on/off the smart plug.
Setup multiple schedules to turn on and off the lights a specific times. (Have not tried the scheduler yet.)
Set a timer to turn on or off the lights after so many hours and/or minutes. (Tried the timer and it worked as expected)

I tested the smart plug in several locations around my house and had no issues. The response time from Alexa or Eufy Genie was less than 3 seconds.

The appears to be a great smart plug. It does everything I needed or wanted in a smart plug and responds fast to commands from my Amazon echo or Eufy Genie.

The real test is will it keep working for a long time. I will update my review after several weeks of use.

One other observation. Eufy's tech support is great. Had an issue with Eufy Genie and they resolved it fast. They have a CHAT feature on their website that I used just before midnight. They followed up with an email the next day. I feel that if the device did have an issue they would help resolve it.
