As for the product itself, i didn't waste any time playing the PAL version of the games that came loaded in the console's system. No way i wanted to put myself through that pain. Also the selection of games is severely lacking imo. The console is so smol and baby but feels pretty sturdy. Still, treat it with care like you would your other consoles. I was disappointed with the controllers (x2) that came w it because no analog sticks lmao but they feel of good quality and are definitely usable. This is not the version where you can open the disc tray to put in game discs. Don't do it. Also, you need a usb power block/adapter. I used the one for my cell phone lmao and the system turned on just fine. This device only has 2 usb ports which is where the controllers plug into. It comes with an hdmi cable.
You can easily watch reviews on youtube about this product as a stand alone and make your judgment. I had no intentions of using it as it was right out of the box after i saw in depth YouTube reviews and what people were actually using it for lol. UwU
Upgrades: I used Eris on a usb stick, utilized an otg usb cable for more usb ports, and 8bitdo for wireless capability for my ps4 controller to use with this console. These modifications took this device to the moon and back for me. I absolutely love what I was able to turn this little guy into and all thanks to people out there who make these adjustments possible. I followed tutorials on how. Because of how smol this thing is, i can easily take it with me to different parts of the house. I was able to play some games on it with my brother this past weekend that we used to play as kids on the original ps1. I am very happy and feel like this console is a great little pet project. I had no prior exp w this stuff but am so glad i was able to take this baby to the next level and give it the justice that Sony freaking couldn't.
Came with two controllers that feel high quality and will take you back by simply holding. PS classic was packaged very well, adding to the “quality feel” of this official Sony emulator. You can get knockoff mini systems but they won’t look or feel as nice as this official one.
I have never before complimented a manufacturer on the way they package their items, may not mean a lot to most manufacturers but Sony is a Japanese company and like toyota they want to express quality everywhere in the product. The ps classic boxes unfold like origami and neatly fold back together if you want to use the box to store your classic/travel with it. When I was opening my PS classic I couldn’t help but think how much money Sony would save in the long run just taping up all these boxes, but rather than deliver lower quality packaging they have a machine or person take the extra time to fold these boxes neatly so they come apart and go back together very nicely. It’s the little things that remind you you have an official item. Good job Sony, I can definitely understand why some people may be dissatisfied with the base 20 games, but it’s a non issue In the current year when you can buy modded sticks here on Amazon for more ps classic games.
It get a lot of hate because the included games suck and a lot aren't even the NTSC version, they're the PAL version along with no tumbsticks on the controllers. If you hack the system you get the most up-to-date emulator(this uses a old one by default), you can load it with the entire PS1 library if you want and it will work with a PS3/PS4 controller in wired mode so you get the thumbsticks. I like this over a raspberry pi because the case does look really nice and it is a nice touch to use the open button to switch discs. I would pick this up, especially for the 29.99 price I bought it for, I like it(hacked) more than the Nintendo minis.
UPDATE: Have played this a ton and works great (hacked) but I've moved back to my pi a bit more and I have to say these are my favorite wired controllers. I might buy a second PS1 Classic just for the controllers. I mainly play retro games and PS1 games I just play the RPGs so I don't really need thumbsticks. It is nice to have 4 of the same controller when playing with friends, right now I have a miss-match but if I had 4 of these controllers it would be a lot better. I hope they're still around Black Friday, maybe I can pick up a second for $19.99. Fingers crossed!

The selection of games pre-installed could have been better and it's a shame that Sony couldn't have added more games. I'm positive various reasons are the cause for the middling selection: that's not to say however that there aren't good games here!
Hearing the PS1 start-up sound is great nostalgia! For those that aren't aware this package includes two controllers and is based on the first pre-Dual Shock controllers for the PS1. The cable length is short. There's two workarounds: purchase a M-F USB extension or use a 8Bit-Do USB Wireless Receiver (this is what I've done and now playing PS Classic using a Dual Shock 4 controller). The PS Classic also does not include an AC adapter, so be sure to use a USB Mico B cable you have in the house or purchase one.
Thanks to folks on the Internet, it's possible to soft mod the system and add your own games to it (which circumvents the pre-installed games to a point).
Overall I'm chuft with this system. The games on offer deliver a small vertical slice of what the PS1 offered back in the day. It's a great package for people my age (in their 30's) to reminiscence about simpler times and for younger folks to experience some of the games available in the 90's/early 2000's.
