This is simply a GREAT phone. I bought it at $500 2 months ago and now you can find it under $400, which is a steal for this level of performance and refinement. Coming from a OnePlus 6 with the fingerprint reader intelligently placed on the back, where my index fingers land every time, I find the screen-based reader awkward, but the face unlock is better than both and works great for me. Highly recommend this model, more than the 7Pro with its motorized selfie camera (simpler is better and more reliable) and the wisdom of staying a couple of generations behind the bleeding (expensive, risky) edge in this fast-moving industry.

No issues with this and I'm happy I got it. The only thing I didn't realize is that it requires wireless headphones. My bad.

This product could not be added to the Verizon network. The stateside 7T is a different model number than the international model (which this is) and because of that Verizon would not add my device to the network. Troubleshooting this was a Kafka-esque experience, so if you are considering attempting it do read on and decide if you can live with some kind of work-around for text messaging.

The phone is great. The only thing I didn't like is that the vibrate motor is very weak even on high power. It is, however, very smooth and quick to start and stop for tactile feedback. The phone is quick to load and switch between apps, google play app store works with it, screen was bright and very smooth with the 90hz refresh rate. The battery would last me about a day and a half, I would use it to punch in at work, chat with clients for maybe 30 min total, check a message board or website for maybe an hour total, and that's it. I'm not a heavy phone user. I wanted something responsive, with an LED screen (never want to go back to LCD) and good battery life and a good camera for social media crap, at a price that wouldn't drain my wallet. Most manufacturers only offer that level of competence on their flagships and at ~$1000 so I was happy to find this phone. I was extremely pleased with the device and wish I could keep it.

It has been a month since I mailed it back and I still haven't received a refund. Not sure what the deal is with that, but I'm waiting on the refund so that I can hopefully get a US model. Amazon has always been prompt in the past so I don't know what the hold up is...

Putting this phone on Verizon goes like this: Vzw defaults to sending a device texts through CDMA unless it is flagged as a CDMA-less device. This device needs that flag because it has no CDMA antenna. You can't set that flag unless the device is officially added to the network. They won't add it to the network because the model number is different from the US released model, which is the only one that is 'verified' to work

This took a month of back and forth through the tech support chat app. Vzw would close my tickets without notifying me or giving any kind of resolution brief. No way to track the issue in order to bring the next tech up to speed. I had to track it all myself and then argue my case and present the findings of the previous tier 2 techs just to get past the tier 1 techs and have an add-device request form submitted to some shadow division of the company. I'd be told I would be notified how it went, then it would get closed and I wouldn't get notified, and I'd have to start all over again. Loads of fun. At least tech support staff was patient with me and as helpful as I could hope for given the communication and documentation challenges.

Why not just call tech support? Because Verizon's phone-in tech support requires you to receive text messages, which is the problem in the first place. I set up an in-person appointment but when I arrived I was informed that they no longer do tech support in person due to the Covid plague.

Otherwise, the phone works great; makes and receive's calls, downloads and uploads data. The Vzw techs insist that the phone lacks software that allows it to be compatible with their network, but everything on the phone works with the network aside from that text/CDMA flag issue, which leads me to believe the tier 1 techs are working with very limited information. I could be wrong, who knows.

From almost day one I had problems, both with dropped calls and with incoming calls not ringing at all but going straight to voicemail. The tech support people are beyond useless. I chatted with them a few times about these issues; their standard fix, and really the only thing they recommend, is wiping the cache, which never fixes anything.

I would not recommend buying this phone.

5.0 out of 5 stars 90Hz really does make a big difference
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 27, 2019
This is an excellent phone. For £549 brand new I don't think you can do any better.

The best feature of this phone and the main reason I feel like it's a worthwhile upgrade from my OnePlus 6 is the 90Hz display. It really does feel so much smoother than a traditional 60Hz display. If I enable 60Hz in settings it feels laggy by comparison and I used to consider my 60Hz OnePlus 6 one of the smoothest phones around.

The build quality and design is also superb. I love the texture of the back. It's glass but it feels like metal and the subtle shift of colour when tilting in the light is really nice, as is the light blue aluminium used on the edges. I also much prefer flat displays - it's the reason I chose the 7T not the 7T Pro. The display gets really bright and is extremely vibrant. This phone feels thoughtfully designed and stands out.

I also have to mention the fingerprint sensor and face unlock. Considering it's under the display I was expecting the fingerprint to be slower than the rapid physical one on my OnePlus 6 but it's exactly the same speed. Practically instant, as is the face unlock.

The vibration motor is also vastly improved. It has tight little vibrations now. It's not very strong but it definitely gives the sort of haptic feedback you'd get on an iPhone or Pixel, just not as strong. The stereo speakers are good too and very, very loud at full volume with no distortion. And charging is silly fast. Battery is good (5 hours screen on time for me) but it's almost irrelevant because you can top 70% in less than half an hour.

The camera is good. Outside in daylight I feel like it stands up there with the best of the best. Things deteriorate the worse the lighting gets. It can still produce a striking photo with the Nightscape option if the subject is completely still but in general it struggles in lower light. The Super Macro mode is impressive though - you can hold the phone about an inch away from a subject and get impressive detail. Almost every other phone would produce blurry results in the same scenario but you can get close up details of water drops, hair follicles, insects or whatever tickles your fancy.

I do have a few complaints. The obvious: no wireless charging, no headphone port and they didn't even put a dongle in the box! There's also no notification LED and no Always On Display option, so there's no way of knowing if you have notifications waiting for you without tapping or lifting the phone.

Oxygen OS is ridiculously fast and smooth but it is quite minimalistic. Not as bad as the Pixel phones but it's lacking in options compared to the Samsungs and Xiaomis of the world, so if you want features galore this phone might not be for you.

I would say this phone suits someone who wants the slickest, fastest, smoothest mobile OS. If you prioritise the most features or the best camera I would say look elsewhere. But for day to day use I don't think there's a better phone at any price.

I moved from a smashed up Mate 20 Pro (which I loved) to this. I usually upgrade a lot, but haven't done so because the mate 20 pro was so good.

    Anyway...

The in screen fingerprint on this is brilliant....it's fast and reliable. Face unlock works really well despite lack of IR face unlock hardware. The battery is actually decent given the size of the battery. I'm easily getting around 1.5 days usage. Although folks say OnePlus cameras are a weak point, I'd disagree...the camera is easily just as good, if not better than my mate 20 pro. The pics are consistently good and crisp. Fast charging with the warp charger is good. The phone itself is slim and good looking. Ideally I'd like to keep it in the supplied case, but I find it so much nicer to use without a case...so I'll risk it. The performance is great - very fast and smooth, no bloat and the screen is slick. The silent/ringer/vibrate slider is a nice touch. The speakers are very loud and crisp - nice if you want some music on while working, but can't put headphones on because you need to listen out for the kids fighting!

Overall I'd recommend, especially given its half the rrp of my last phone. I did consider other phones such as the x2 pro which came with more storage and ram for less money...however it's heavier, bulkier, no camera OIS and will have a poorer resale value.

The OnePlus 8 looks nice, but honestly not interested in 5g right now. Will be several years before there is 5g signal in my area and I'm sure the protocol and chipsets to match will advance.

So...if you're looking for a fast and great all rounder phone...this is the one.

    ***Update after more usage***

-The screen is smooth, but a bit dull compared to my old phone. It's not great in sunlight either even on fill brightness.

-I'm having an issue with Bluetooth volume being low. Tried everything mentioned online with no success.

-Chrome occasionally locks up and freezes randomly and you have to exit and re-enter the app to bring it back to life.

For these reasons I'm returning the device.

This phone has good quality, works well and fast, battery last good for me, but if you make love to your phone all day or you don't have a life the battery will need to be charged at night. It can get warm if your on the internet for long periods. It isn't loaded with a lot of shitty apps and volume is great, camera works great for me. Nice, very nice.
