WiFi 6E - 6 GHz Band

WiFi 6E gives you up to seven* additional high-speed 160 MHz channels, for multi-gigabit speeds with stable and consistent connections. It dramatically increases network capacity while reducing bandwidth congestion, delivering higher performance for every WiFi 6E device.

Customize your WAN

Multi-WAN usage is increasingly popular, and it's great for those who need unstoppable internet. With one 2.5 Gbps WAN port, two 10 Gbps ports and four 1 Gbps ports that can also be configured as WAN ports, you don't have to rely on a single ISP. With dual internet connections from two different ISPs, even if one fails, you'll still have access to the other.

Dual 10 Gbps Ports

For power users with 10GBase-Tenabled PCs, servers or NAS devices, the dual 10 Gbps ports are perfect. These are more convenient than simply combining multiple gigabit Ethernet ports, and help increase your available bandwidth to avoid data bottlenecks for your whole network.

Asus is one of my favorite / preferred brands - I now have 2!
I have been buying Asus equipment for years... notebook computers and routers. I have purchased at least 6 notebooks and probably 4 or 5 routers. Nothing is perfect but I have been happy with the quality of Asus products over other brands and only recently did I deviate at buy a desktop of another brand at Costco. As for the Asus GT-AXE16000, I now have 2 in my modest home. I guess I have money to burn and time on my hands?First one delivered August 16, 2023Second one delivered October 16,2023Below my original review. I have only to add that now that I own two of these I have them set up in a Mesh system... not a wired backhaul which will come later, but it is working fine and the proof is the download speeds I am achieving on my iPhone out in my back yard (we are on 1/2 an acre equal to 21,780 square feet). At the furthest ends of the yard I get maybe 400mbps closer up over 500mbps, inside the house, well my desktop with a Wi-Fi 6e card yields 1,050mbps while streaming 6 IP cameras and Netflix and the rest.as of this writing my router indicates I have 31 devices connected. What is nice is with the Mesh system I can "bind" different devices to the main router or the node, doing this based on what device is closer to router or node. For devices like my iPhone I don't bind and am channeling them to a band that has "roaming assist" set up... it is a lot of work, but fun at the same time.In any event, this review is for the Asus GT-AXE16000.The bad:1. EXPENSIVE, the most expensive router I have ever purchased2. The Ethernet ports are so close together that it is difficult to plug in cables if you are using CAT8 or whatever and have the unit up on a shelf standing on a ladder and trying to spin it around to make the connections (don't they tell you to place these up high in the center of your house?). It may be a dumb idea but it just dawned on me that Asus could just make this thing taller and have the Ethernet connections below the same horizontal line as the antennas which need to be moved one way or another to get the dang cables connected... what's another inch in height, this thing is massive already.3. As with the Ethernet connections, the power supply is right next to an antenna... the plug is at a 90 degree angle and I feel it would be petter if it were just straight and not be bothered with the antenna.4. The LED status indicators are on top not in front, and In my opinion, again since this is up high on a bookshelf in the center of my home... well, they cannot be viewed at all unless you are on a ladder and use your phone to take a picture?5. The GUI! Ok, I AM NOT a "gamer" and the GUI is too busy for me, the colors, the options I will never use, a lot of things I have no interest in. I purchased this unit because of the specifications and being quad band, but the GUI is in my opinion poorly organized and in addition to that, when you view the network client list it shows wired devices then 5ghz1, 5ghz2, 6ghz and in the end 2.4ghz... seems backwards to me, and is backwards if compared to my Asus RT-AC5300. In addition to that when you make changes it dose not reflect all four bands when rebooting, but only three and the 6ghz band is labeled as 2.4ghz something is not right there. The good:1. This thing is beautiful. I don't care about the lights, but it is a very nice looking piece of equipment, and in all fairness you can turn the lights off.2. Quad band, you get 1 x 2.4ghx, 2 x 5.0ghz, and 1 x 6ghz. Wireless connections are superb. I am running 9 Wi-Fi security cameras, my email client, my web browser, streaming on Amazon or Netflix on multiple devices and can still run speed tests and achieve up to 1,050 Mbps when connected to the 6ghz. NOTE that you WILL have to play with the advanced settings and channel numbers it is NOT PLUG AND PLAY you have to get into the guts of the thing if you want it to work for you as it should... Wi-Fi scanner and check bandwidth and all but it is well worth the time invested setting it up.3. I currently have the GT-AXE16000 set up as main router and the RT-AC5300 as a mesh node. I am not using wired backhaul and am still getting speeds off the node of over 500mbps. I am seriously considering purchasing a second GT-AXE1600 to use just as a node.If you are an Internet junky or geeky kind of person like me, but this thing. I am quite pleased with it. One thing I will suggest, mention is I did change the stock firmware from Ausus to Asus-Merlin which provides more options in terms of settings and you can choose to have the funky gamer interface or a more business like interface without all the hoopla and funky colors and icons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Slick router and amazing for a wifi 6e device
Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2021
    Beautiful looking spider machine

Was able to go from an asus ac1900 to this one and doubled the speed on wifi. The user interface is slick and fast and much more responsive than any other router interface i have ever used. I can get sustained speed everywhere in a 3 story home,so the router is no slacker

The reason for not enough stars is this: running into some issues with the 6ghz band. I do have a ax210ngw on the desktop but it's not detecting the 6ghz band. So need more investigation on cause of this. Its hard to investigate the cause other than getting another wifi 6e client which are by far few. Maybe I'll snag my friends samsung s21 in a couple of days and will be able to actually test it on 6ghz

    ----Edit----
    Update 2/5/2020
On a 1Gbps line, I can consistently get about 700-800 Mbps 3 story up (router is on the basement) on a DFS channel for an AX device. AC devices are no slouches either and now top at 500-600 Mbps 3 story up. On non-DFS channels I top around 450-550 Mbps so that is not bad either. Guess I don't need to buy a Mesh network!

AX210 doesn't work on windows. Found a thread on intel forums that it might need a windows update later on for activating 6ghz (thread name: Intel AX210 can't create 6GHz hotspot ). Also found that linux 5.11 should support 6Ghz so tried it out with Ubuntu and 5.11rc6. Unfortunately though the AP is detected connection fails so I guess its more wait and watch with linux too. Atleast the Ax210 saw the 6ghz AP. So yay my device is not broken.

And my friend bought a regular S21 so that testing avenue is gone for the time being.

    Edit Nov 2021
6Ghz band works great on a Pixel 6 Pro. The range is shorter than the 5Ghz band and the phone shows lower signal strength but the 6ghz bandwidth speed in my house is usually more than what I get with the 5Ghz

Other than that, the perfect router. I use remote desktop from my top story laptop to my computer in the basement and use Zoom video and audio and both latency and bandwidth are great enough that I can use Zoom effectively. love the router!

The product is superb and I have no exact word to describe the router, I have 1gbps plan and the router is providing the excellent speed above 900 mbps.
