Derwent Canvas Pencil Wrap
Derwent Canvas Pencil Wrap
Take Your Creativity on the Road
One of the best ways to be creatively inspired is to venture out of familiar surroundings and experience new things. And, the easiest, most convenient way to carry your drawing tools to your destination is in this stylish pencil wrap. Made from tough canvas with leather look trim and a secure snap closure, it has individual elastic pencils slots that hold and protect up to 30 standard-size pencils together with accessories.
Having everything visible and organized is much easier than carting a pencil box around and having to search through it for what you need. When you’re ready to move onto your next location, just roll it up and stick it in your backpack.
Tough and Protective
Made from tough canvas with a leather look trim, the smart roll design allows any artist to transport pencils without damaging the contents. A faux leather 'flap' at one side of the wrap will protect the pencils from breaking and a press stud will secure the wrap whilst on the move.
- 30 slots
- Unrolls flat
- Tough canvas material
- Other small accessories can fit loosely in wrap
- Pencils not included
Create a Customized Pencil Set
Unrolling flat for easy access, the wrap has elasticated slots capable of holding up to 30 standard sized pencils and accessories. A range of 'pencil sized' slots are complemented with larger slots that can fit up to three fine art blocks or larger Derwent accessories. Smaller accessories such as art erasers or pencil sharpeners will fit loose into the wrap and will still be secure once the wrap is rolled.

Update: Sept. 7, 2017
I am still using this carry-all bag and still loving it. I did find that a couple of the elastic bands on the sleeves did get a little looser where my pencils don't fit as snug as they did before. It hasn't been an issue since it does zip all the way around and I haven't lost any pencils. I love being able to flip through the sleeves and have my pencils in one place. I also like that I can pull the sleeves out whenever I want and have them next to each other for easy access.
I was looking for something to hold all the basic drawing supplies I need for full-time living on the road: 72 Prismacolor Premier pencils, a dozen or so graphite pencils, charcoal, Inktense pencils, a set of Sakura Micron pens, a variety of erasers, a ruler, sharpening tools, a roll of tape, etc. You get the idea -- I need it to hold basically *everything* except paper & drawing board in an organized, easy-to-work-from way. I love the way the bag opens out flat so everything is immediately accessible and it's easy for me to put things back where they belong. (The only things I don't keep in the bag are ink and fixative spray, just in case they leak.)
I know I am not alone in my frustration (to put it politely) that Prismacolor Premiers come in those useless tins with layers of flimsy trays. Sure, they look nice in the store, but anyone who buys 72, 120, 132, or 150 colored pencils obviously wants them to be organized and easily accessible. C'mon, Prismacolor -- why not package the Premiers in the same functional stand-up cardboard box that the Verithins come in, with all colors visible?
The leaves in this carry-all bag go a long way toward organizing your colored pencil collection. Some reviewers have complained that there are only 11 elastic slots per side, each designed to hold 2 pencils. (I don't mind that, but in case you do, you should probably know before purchasing.) Also, to avoid broken pencils, I use the slots closest to the binder rings and the outside edge of the bag for blending stumps and tortillons, so I only fit 18 pencils per side. Even so, the bag seems roomy enough to add the two extra leaves Derwent sells if you need them.
I have only a couple of (minor) complaints about the bag. First, I think a second zippered compartment would be more useful than the elastic band that's intended to hold a small sketchbook. On occasions when I'm using a sketchbook that small, I only need a couple of pens or pencils with me and don't need to lug all my supplies. So, instead of using the elastic band to hold a sketchbook, I use it to hold a small case with my most frequently used items (a sandpaper pencil pointer, a couple of erasers, etc.) so I don't have to dig through the mesh zipper section to find them.
The only other features I could live without are the shoulder strap (easily removed) and the padded handle wrap (which is not removable).
All in all, I would say this bag does everything I need it to do -- which is a lot -- better than any other product out there. Considering how well it serves its purpose, it is well worth the price. I will be buying another one soon as a Christmas gift for my son.
It's clear that 132 really is the max this will hold. But I believe if they increased the ring binder a bit, there would be room for more pencils. But I'm not complaining. What I decided to do was put my Faber-Castell Polychromos line (120 count set) in this bag. It fits nicely and It holds my pencil sharpener, several drawing pencils, a small (and I mean small) sketchbook, and I put my paper brush in the outside pocket. It would be nice to see it hold a 9 by 12 sketchbook but that's just a wish and not a deal breaker for me. I plan to purchase several more of these...all for myself. I would recommend this for a colored pencil artist that is on the go and needs a smaller bag to carry their pencils. It really protects the pencils and it's so easy to reach for the right color when laid out in this fashion. As an artist, I'm not for just throwing all my pencils in several jars. However, keeping them in their original tins, or packaging has not been effective either. Having several different sets I want them separate and by color. This is why I purchased originally the 120 count canvas pencil holder by Global. I've not had any difficulty with them. I can reach for the set I want...and it's there. This bag is perfect for when I want to work in another area and not carry another bag with my other essential supplies like my pencil sharpener. That's the plus for this Carry-All Bag. I would recommend it to artists that enjoy having their pencils sorted by color and set. I WILL purchase again.
