Talk about a huge difference! To put it simply, this feeder works. It is nothing fancy, but it does what it says it's supposed to do. Please note that Casey is a pellet eater, not a seed eater, so my experience is based on pellets.
Some information I think is important to pass on:
1. You are paying for the convenience. The plastic itself might not be worth $22, but the result is.
2. When I first put this feeder in the cage, Casey was determined to get at the food from the top of it. Because he didn't seem to understand me when I told him that his method was not going to work, I ended up putting a good-grip perch a couple inches outside and downward (gotta have that tail clearance) of the feeder entrance. I then put a few pellets in the perch area of the feeder to entice Casey to stick his head in there. After he ate the easily-accessible pellets, it didn't take long for him to figure out that he could step up to the feeder perch to reach the rest of it.
3. Speaking of that perch... The perch inside of the feeder, while looking pretty and matching the rest of the feeder, is slippery as ice for cockatiel feet. I ended up buying some tread tape to put on the perch, and Casey has had no trouble with the perch since then. It also made the feeder perch a little wider in diameter, which I feel is a very good thing for the larger cockatiel feet in the small Tidy Seed feeder.
4. Little bits of leftover, pulverized pellets are very easy to dump out by turning the feeder upside down and banging it on the trash can. I had been a little concerned when I bought it that I'd be having to reach my fingers in there to clean it, but that is not the case. A couple bangs upside down to get the food at the top of the feeder, then a bang or two sideways to get the food out the door, and you're done.
To sum up: With slight tweaking, this feeder is going to do its job of keeping your bird's food mess contained. Pricey, but worth it to have a cleaner house.

Update 2014-06-12
I decided to pick up another one of these types of feeders and found one made by another brand that was only 75% of the price, so I bought the other one. Turns out I wasted my money, because that other brand does not have the following, highly-important-now-that-I-know-about-it #5 feature. I'll be buying a second one of the Tidy feeder right after I submit this update to my review. Grr.
5. This feeder has fixed hooks that make moving the feeder around or taking it out to refill it a one-handed breeze. It takes all of two seconds to get the feeder out.
At least one other brand of this type of feeder has non-stationary hooks where the hooks are quite long. For my purposes, those long and moving hooks are absolutely horrible since it means that I need two hands to unhook it without dropping it and that the feeder has to be placed in a location where my arms can reach the feeder both inside and outside of the cage. Refilling it becomes a chore instead of a five-second job, and I regret the purchase. If someone is in the situation where their bird manages to unhook this Tidy feeder often, they might look into that other brand. For me, I'm going back to this Tidy feeder.

Update 2017-05-30
Still going strong five years later.
There was no problem getting my bird to use it, he went right on in as I put it in the cage.
I would like to say that it would be best, like they recommend, to mount it on the outside a food door if your cage doesn't have something in the way like mine does. Because it is so perfectly clear, if you do have to mount in the inside, then you can expect to have some confusion from the bird who will think he/she can get to the seed from any angle through the container. They should offer ones with semi transparent sides & top for use with in cage mount, so the can see there is a barrier between them and the food.
Its not a big deal because they are smart and will figure it out, and makes them think a bit. Mine tends to use the little rung half of the time and steps back on the edge of the container when hes really hitting the seed hard. Either way, there really is very little to no mess. The only mess mine makes is when I come in the room and he turns to look at me, and drops the skin of the seed.
I would buy again, and will buy again if it ever breaks.
REVISION: modified cage to work with one of the feed doors.....Much better.... Still love it and no mess.
