    Speakers sound really good. Bluetooth started to fail after two years. I would get the non Bluetooth version and buy the WiiM WiFi player for 89$. Cheaper and more reliable. In fact I’m buying my second WiiM as I’m writing this. My other pair was bought same time without Bluetooth and has WiiM connected to it and works great!

    I have been mostly a front of house sound engineer for 25 years, I also appreciate the audiophile world and have been living there for a long time. Currently I enjoy professionally mixing on d&b audiotechnik speakers which are about as audiophile as you can get in the live sound world. My journey started with the Parts Express C-Note speakers that need to be assembled. It was fun and they do sound great. After several years I wanted to get something that sounded more precise but I don't want to break the bank. I have been a Klipsch fan for a long time so I went with the Klipsch R-51PM. While they sounded "good", they severely lack in mid-range/low-end presence and have an annoying hiss at low levels. They are very quirky as well. So after some more research I came across these Audioengine A5+'s. I have heard of Audioengine for a while now and I always felt they were a tad small to reproduce solid mid range. I took a swing after reading some glowing reviews and I can honestly say, these speakers do not disappoint. I am very impressed with the tight clarity, unreal mid-range, and an extremely solid low end that put the Klipsch speaker to shame. If you wanted to run these without a subwoofer, they can hold their own. However, if you want a full range stage, you will need a subwoofer. I have paired these speakers with an iFi Zen DAC V2 which allows you to remove the additional volume control from Windows and you only need the volume control on the speakers themselves while also having a separate volume control for your headphones that doesn't affect the speakers. Very ideal set up. There is no audible hiss at low levels. They look great. The terminals on the back of the speakers are top notch! One of the things I hated about the Klipsch is their terminals are cheap and plasticky which makes connections very difficult to set up. There is nothing about these speakers that say cheap or flimsy at all. The exact opposite actually. I got the basic matte black finish which will leave fingerprints but after setting them up, that's not a concern. The power light is a tad bright since the speaker sits at near arms reach, but I was able to use a "light dim" and now it is tolerable. The remote solid milled aluminum and feels premium, however, when pulling the tab the first time to activate the battery, I thought I broke it, but that was part of the design and after popping the control unit back in, it is flawless. Other than that, I honestly can' think of anything I don't love about these speakers.

    So I am not an audio engineer, DJ, or other professional consumer of music. I am a 50+ YO who pursues great sound without going bankrupt. I prefer value to $5000 speakers. I prefer bright, v-shaped pop and rock, and am a huge fan of 5.1 SACDs. Love my Klipsch speakers and pair them with Definitive Technology and REL subs depending on space limitations. That's my jam, but it may not be yours.

    All that to say these speakers don't break the bank, but they sound like it. I use them on my desktop for near field listening at my home office. I've tried many solutions over the years - Klipsch, Bose, SVS and many other brands you've never heard of.

    I didn't mind these speakers without the subwoofer, but subs are so cheap, I paired it with one of my Def Tech subs and it is magnificent. I never really push the volume levels - too old for that "stuff". However, the sound stage is amazing. Natural and immersive, like the band is sitting on my desk. Mid-range is incredible clear and forward which is great for vocals. They just seem to jump forward in most songs.

    I don't have the stands, just some toe in alignment toward my workspace and they sound amazing.

    Please try these if you are looking for a near-field solution. You'll save yourself a lot of time looking around and be grinning as soon as you fire them up.

    However they were much larger than I was expecting. They're basically the size you'd use for a medium/large living. No way I could fit them in my office unfortunately. Wish I hadn't listened to them - made it so hard to send them back.

    So the speakers are really well made, I went for the bamboo finish. They are solid and heavy. Everything comes in there own little velvet bag. Cables all included even an aux Jack for a phone. I got the Bluetooth version, there is still an aux Jack and red and white in. Everything tells you it’s quality from just the packaging.

    I bought them to use with my decks. They are super compact and throw out a brilliant quality sound. But I also use them for sitting and enjoying music.

    I did order the subwoofer a week later and that made such a difference. If anything the bookshelf speakers lack a touch of bass and maybe a bit of EQ wouldn’t go a miss.

    They would be perfect for using with a TV or computer. I’d say they would be wasted on a computer if you are just gaming £400 to £500 for gaming seems a waste to me.

    The remote is basic but made out of a solid bit of aluminium.

    Definitely a good purchase. So compact and so powerful. I was wary as most of my Bluetooth speaker just don’t have the power, they lack depth and oomph. I’ve had/have Sonos, a beats pill +, jongo, and a klipsch dock. The audio engine wins hands down.

    I like the build quality and the look of these speakers. I chose them in Bamboo. They are being used for the tv audio instead of a sound bar. They are straightforward to set up for this purpose. A fairly expensive purchase but I do think that they are good value for money. Once they are run in they will sound even better than the already great ‘out of box’ sound which is great! They were bought for the long term and I’m very pleased with them.
