Customers are mixed about the ease of use of the hair trimmer. Some mention that it's incredibly easy to use, with a simple, multi-select head that makes shaving beard quite easy. Customers are dissatisfied with the appearance of the hair trimmer. They mention that it has a terrible design, cumbersome design flaws, and ugly travel pouch. Customers are dissatisfied with the durability of the hair trimmer. They mention that the cutting head will fall off while they are using it, and the trimming mechanism would start falling off during their shaves. DO NOT under any circumstance buy this faulty product.
1 Star
DO NOT under any circumstance buy this faulty product.
Men that are hoping to have less mess to clean up after shaving, listen up. DO NOT under any circumstance spend your money on this trimmer. This is an inferior product and it's a shame that Philips is still selling this trimmer. It should be illegal. As you may have read in the reviews, this series trimmer has a serious fault with brittle plastics being used for its attachments as well as for the main blade.DurabilityI know what you are thinking. Some men are just rough with their shavers, this is not going to happen to me. I'll be very careful. That's what I thought when I got it. I can promise you that I take care of my tech. Most of my beard trimmers have lasted me for years. The oldest one I have is a Norelco product that's over 8 years old. (see photos)Knowing the issues with this, I have been babying this thing and making sure that I don't snap off the parts that were reported brittle. Guess what. In the middle of the shave, not while changing the blade or cleaning the device, blade peace just fell out. I could not believe it.I looked it and sure enough, one of the peaces that everyone is saying it breaks broke off. (see photo) I have owned this shaver for 4.5 months and I shave my mid-length beard once a week. That means this happened about 20-30 uses tops.DesignThis has nothing to do with misuse as they claim and everything to do with poor design and very cheap plastic for this application. This is a manufacturing default and if something like this were to happen on your mobile phone or any other peace of more expensive tech there would be a class-action suit over this. Of course, this is a cheap product an no one wants to waste their time over it.WarrantySpeaking about wasting time, let me tell you about the warranty. They claim 2-5 year extended warranty (Depending where you buy it). Sound good right? Well not so fast. Finding an online warranty page offers you ways to troubleshoot your trimmer. Nowhere is there an easy way to warranty exchange your trimmer online. You have to call them. Who wants to waste time on that? When you do call them, they will tell you that that peace is not under warranty and it's broken due to misuse. Mine broke during the shave. That's it. Even though Philips will send one replacement unit as a courtesy for some people, I got a hard no. I didn't push it. We are talking about $50 product. I didn't even want to call and waste my time in the first place.Replacement PartsGuess how much is the replacement part. $40!!!! The trimmer as a whole is $55. The replacement broken part is $40 + Shipping. In my mind this proves that Philips is aware of this problem and they are gouging people. You wanna tell me that blade is $40 and body, battery and motor is $15? No way. This replacement part should not be more than $10 at the most. I'm sure it's manufactured for $1-$2I could not believe it. The company that I have relied for years have let me down the first time I needed them to stand behind their products in 20 years.Philips BladesSo here is the problem. Philips has by far the best blades in the business. I'm a little obsessed with beards and trimming and I have tried most manufacturers trimmers. I always went back to my 8 years old Norelco unit. (which by the way still works, but the battery doesn't last thought one shave) Their blades will never cut you, no matter where you are using them. ;) Other brands are not comparable, but at this point, they do not have a product with a vacuum that can replace their way superior older series of vacuum beard trimmers.Long story short, I'm very sad that my Philips Norelco saga ended on the sad note, but the facts are facts. Their products are now way inferior even that something cheap you can get at Walmart. I'm hoping Philips will create another product, but looking at their update cycle it will take 5-8 years before something new is out. Please do your self a favor and stay away from this particular purchase. Shame on you Philips.
