As far as Alexa goes, I can't ever remember if the command is "Roomba Clean", "Roomba Go Home.". There is a specific command necessary for the Alexa to communicate to the Roomba and unless you use it every day or are very good at remembering commands, you'll find yourself picking it up by hand and setting it back on its port or just pushing the clean button on top. You will have to empty the bin out of it anyway so you have to physically handle the machine no matter what.
My favorite feature is that you can schedule start times. So every morning, it turns on and vacuums after we leave for work around 8:30am. We never hear it run, come home and find it in wherever it got stuck, and empty the bin. Pretty simple and it really helps keep the dust down.
The downside of the machine is that it tends to get stuck. If you have a phone charger or some chord, carpet tassel, string, etc. laying around, it will find it and suck it up. Fortunately, it stops before ever tearing anything up so far. Just pull the brush out and untangle whatever it is, set it back down and let it continue cleaning.
PROS
- Setup was extremely easy, I haven't tried to link her to my Alexa so I don't know about that part but linking the Roomba to the app on my phone and then my WiFi happened very quickly.
- Setting up the Roomba herself and installing her brushes was very simple. I did get turned around but the app has helpful videos and instructions that told me I was putting in the brushes backwards. All in all it took me 3 min after I realized how everything goes.
- Unlike some other devices I've seen Rosie does not need a lot of space to dock herself. Just make sure your dog isn't trying to befriend it by laying toys on the dock and you are good to go.
- Opening up the dust bin, then the brush cage is very straight forward and easy to clean. We have many shedding things in our house and it was pretty easy to clean most of the fluff off of the brushes.
- I have her set to operate once a day except on weekends, my floors have never been so fluff free and she tends to toodle about her designated areas with little issue while I am at work.
- She's really a cute little thing and does what I need her for without complaint.
CONS
- She can get lost in other rooms. We have her clean our main living area/kitchen/hallyways and she runs around with no problem. But if we forget and leave a door open she will eventually make her way into a bedroom, get overwhelmed and get stuck on something.
- The suction is a little more powerful than I was thinking, so if you have small toys on the floor they could get sucked up and she will send you a brush clean notification. It's been easy to untangle her but sometimes annoying if you are not in the house and get the error.
- The dock has to be completely clear for her to put herself to sleep. If there is let's say a pet or a toy or something blocking the way she will try to push it out of the way but will often run out of battery before she can dock herself.
- She will not do as your only vacuum. She doesn't do super well on carpet (we have hardwoods with a rug or two) but the few times she's wandered into a bedroom that's full carpeted she mostly pushed around the fluff rather than sucked it up.
All in all she has been cleaning our house for about a month now and we are very pleased. I wish she could magically zoom around and vacuum every room but that isn't the case. Still she's useful for what she can do and because I purchased her at a discount with the lightning deal I am very pleased with her.
I got this roomba for the first floor. It’s an open floor plan of hardwood floor with 3 rugs. The docking station I set next to the fireplace in the corner. The first run picked up so much dust, I couldn’t believe my eyes.
I run this every other day to pick up the loose cat food, litter, and fur that I miss from pass vacuuming with the Dyson.
I bought it with the intention to be a supplemental cleaner, and it surpassed my expectations.
The only con is that it sometimes has trouble returning back to the docking station if it’s far away. But in those cases I just manually pick it up and place it back myself. Best $209 ever spent!
