First of all, this was great LP to have again. Not sure if this was remastered, it certainly sounded like it. The guitars were incredibly clear and vibrant from before. Coming off the heels of the LP that broke them in America, 'Blackout,' 'Love At First Sting' was certainly a home run for this German band. Hits like 'Rock You Like A Hurricane,' 'Big City Nights,' 'Bad Boys' and more, this album made them International stars. It's a "must have" for Scorpion fans! This album will not disappoint rock fans alike. For this guy, only vinyl will do!

Love at First Sting was part of that group of hard rock releases in the early 80's that made me fall in love with rock. Out of the Cellar, Pyromania, Shout at the Devil, Metal Health, etc. I purchased the LAFS 1995 remaster when it came out, and at the time it sounded great. Recently, shuffle hit me with Big City Nights right in between newer songs by other artists. The quality of the 1995 remaster just didn't hold up. So I researched any new versions and came across this 3 disc set from 2015. Wow, what a difference. The bass, along with the overall level, sounds so much better on this release. Well worth it if you're a Scorpions fan!

After several years spent tweaking their sound, Germany's The Scorpions finally got it right on their ninth (!) full-length effort from the studio. A true milestone on the hard rock and glam metal timelines, 1984's "Love At First Sting" manages to rock sufficiently hard while simultaneously maintaining a unique melodic edge. And add to this the fact that it is filled with memorable pop-like hooks, the songs are driven home even further into your memory bank. And plus there is the fact that they are packed to the brim with impassioned clean vocals (from frontman Klaus Meine) that sound truly top-notch, and exceptional instrumental playing. (Guitarists Matthias Jabs and Rudolf Schenker, in particular, stand out for being one of metal's earliest and best six-string teams.)

The album's obvious highpoint has to be "Rock You Like A Hurricane," because it is not only "First Sting"'s hit lead single, it is a truly anthemic and ultra infectious number that would prove to go on to become The Scorpions' most universally-well-known song. And its use of utterly unforgettable choruses and Rob Halford-like vocal hooks played a large part in this role. But the tune's gobs of fiery, shred-happy soloing also helped it to become one of the standard-bearing party metal rockers of the Eighties. (It ranks right there alongside AC-DC's best works!) But certainly, there are other standouts. Songs like the strong and powerful set opener ("Bad Boys Running Wild"), for example, underpin catchy, galloping guitar hooks and pyrotechnic soloing with a round of strong, beeping, and grumbling bass lines. And "Coming Home," which is one-half strings `n' all rock balladry and one-half raucously hard-rocking and propulsive heavy rocker, fueled by muscular, bottom-heavy bass grumbles, deftly up-tempo guitar leads, and fiery, screaming solos, rivals "Rock You Like A Hurricane" for being the set's pinnacle. And further highlights include "I'm Leaving You," which boasts miles more twiddly, mazy, and thus really memorable soloing; the surprisingly blistering, near Judas Priest-y speed metal-esque romp that is "The Same Thrill"; and "Still Loving You," a soaring, laid-back, and almost ethereal-sounding Iron Maiden-ish tear-jerking power ballad that closes out the album.

"Love At First Sting" is not a particularly groundbreaking or even thoroughly remarkable affair, but as far as enjoyable glam metal and hard rock records go, this one is hard to beat.

It has so many extras on it that I was blown away. It has demos, videos and DVDs of shows and the band talking about the making of the album. Worth every penny!
