Editorial Reviews

Firmly at the forefront of the progressive rock and metal scenes for nearly three decades now and one of modern rock’s acclaimed live acts, Sweden’s Pain of Salvation return with the follow-up studio album release to 2017’s acclaimed “In The Passing Light Of Day”. And PANTHER, which was mixed with Daniel Bergstrand (In Flames, Meshuggah, Devin Townsend) and comes with a comprehensive artwork-theme with illustrations made by André Meister, is once again a triumph for artistic imagination and an exhilarating new chapter in the life of Pain of Salvation: Intense, ever innovative and highly relevant. PANTHER is available as CD, Digital Album, limited 2CD Mediabook (Incl. 4 bonus tracks on separate disc and expanded arwork) and as 180g. Gatefold 2LP (Incl. 4 bonus tracks as Side D and album on CD as bonus).

This may not sound like your typical Pain of Salvation albums from the past, but doesn't mean it's not good. Artists are allowed to grow and change and play from their hearts, true fans should listen to new stuff open mindedly and see how it affects them. I enjoyed this and think it's a different but solid release from Pain of Salvation.

I wasn't sure I wanted to listen to the album after seeing the singles. Surprisingly, the songs are more enjoyable without the visuals, especially Accelerate -- which is surprising, considering I thought Accelerate video to be well directed and shot. Wait is the highlight of the album for me, a beautiful song.

That being said, after the masterpiece of The Passing Light Of Day, this album is a not in the same league. It's not as weak as Road Salt 2, but does not break into the band's Top 5. Maybe closer to Scarsick, which I enjoy at times, but usually would skip in favor of the band's another album.

Definitely not for Pain of Salvation newbies. Hardcore fans only.

I see that many reviewers are giving this album less than 5 stars, merely because it doesn't "measure up" to Passing Light. I say don't judge this album like that. Each POS album is its own experience. This is an amazing album, Just give it a chance on its own without comparing it to PLOD. And, Fur is not a throwaway track. Keep listening, you'll get it. : )

La caja del CD llego totalmente dañada

After MANY disappointing years of Scarsick, the roadsalt albums and Falling home, pain of salvation came back with a fury with In the Passing Light of Day. Sure, songs like meaningless were written completely by Ragnar years prior, but hey I can turn a blind eye. Overall, I had renewed hope for the band and now we have Panther...

Well, it definitely doesn't suck. Kind of a weird album though. People were saying this was gonna be the "electronic" Pain of salvation album. Not even close. There's hints of electronic infused into the album, but they are just that.

There's some decent stuff here. With exception of the throwaway track Fur, none of the songs I feel compelled to skip. The weak sounding singles work better in the context of the album. This album definitely takes patience to enjoy, but its enjoyable. Ultimately, there's some really good ideas here that feel like they don't fully deliver or are delivered half baked.

If you are new to the band, go get The perfect element and Remedy lane first and then branch out from there. Panther is just an ok addition to the band's catalogue.

Huge POS fan for over 20 years, and everything that has been released is totally worthy of your time, However, I have to admit that this album comes up short on creativity. a number of tracks on here sound like cutting room floor of previous albums.. The ideas are a bit stale, and i don't hear anything new contrary to other reviews stating this is fresh Don't know where it is fresh..... I feel that this is on Par with Road Salt releases perhaps a notch below as their isn't one track that blows me away... Road salt had linoleum at least.. this is Mediocre for POS. Which is still better than most bands releases.

4.0 out of 5 stars Exploring New Sounds
Reviewed in Canada on November 19, 2020
Am i the only one who gets tired of fanboys who do nothing but moan and complain that their "favorite" band sucks now because they are not as Metal as they used to be? The new Pain of Salvation album is the NEW Pain of Salvation album. No, it's not as fast and hard as One Hour By Concrete Lake. But it is an interesting direction and the band is creating powerful and thought provoking music while exploring new territories. I am not going to say i like this album better than Entropia, The Perfect Element or Remedy Lane, but this work is strong and it keeps growing on me with every listen. And PoS have always been a band the requires extended repeated listens to fully appreciate. Check it out, but give it a few spin before drawing any final conclusions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Otra vuelta de tuerca
Reviewed in Spain on September 28, 2020

5.0 out of 5 stars 特にRESTLESS BOYが好きです
