Editorial Reviews

Some people just don't need no introduction. And this fine gentleman is high on top of that list: Phil Campbell, Welsh rock titan, Motörhead guitarist for more than 30 years until the bitter end. Now in 2019, Campbell releases his first solo album. 'Old Lions Still Roar' comes armed with an arsenal of fierce riffing, anthemic hooks, pumping energy and no-holds-barred hard rocking fuel, Campbell underlines his reputation as one of rock's keenest preservers.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with release. I read a number of interviews with Phil that lead me to think that I may not end up liking it. I’m very glad I purchased it anyway though as it really rocks. It opens with a strumming acoustic song about the story of his musical life. I love that he mentions his wife and sons very positively in the song as well. After that, the rocking begins. Each song has great riffs and choruses. It never bores and I never skip tracks. This is a great record from start to finish. You need to own this record.

The first time I saw Motorhead was back in 1987. I worked hard to get to front of the stage and ended up right in front of Phil. He was very cool, gave me a few picks (which I still have somewhere). So he does no wrong in my eyes. That being said this is a great album. Its very varied and not a bad song. Especially like the first track "Rocking Chair" which is very biographical. I so miss Motorhead but glad Phil is carrying on.

Man on the wasteland
5.0 out of 5 stars Maître du metal
Reviewed in France on December 16, 2020

Well what can I say except if you love hard rock done exceptionally well then go no further. It's a classic pure and simple. All songs co-written with all the guests, genius! Phil really has come up with the goods here, my fave track is with Orange Goblins Ben Ward, awesome! 5 stars all day long.
