How do veteran Texas blues rockers do following their mega-hit "Eliminator" album? No pressure right? They followed up the same formula with slick videos and polished blues-based hard rock. Long time fans often lament these synth-drenched and drum machine entrenched pop-rock tunes. Yes, there is that stuff but it's still hard-driving blues Texas-style boogie at its core. Other veteran rockers adapted to the polished sound (see Canadien rockers Rush) of the decade. At the time these veteran rockers were riding the wave of notoriety after years of modest success who could blame them for enjoying their mega-stardom? I certainly don't. Though this had its share of decent hits like "Stages", Sleeping Bag" and "Rough Boys"(the obligatory power ballad that was popular in the 80's) they didn't have quite the same punch as the previous Eliminator album. It's still worth a listen if you're a fan of the group. On a personal note, I did see the group play in Germany for the tour supporting the album in 1986(I was in the Army stationed there at the time).

this album was a favorite of mine in the 80s. Now I have the CD, it is great, still, and I have a format for my digital media player(CD) if you are a fan of ZZ Top, I would highly recommend this album. these guys used to put on a good show at concerts, too. this seems to be a real good recording.

ZZ Top tried to adopt too much techno/synth, typical of other rock bands of the era (like some of the Rush stuff). That said, it was nearly impossible to follow-up the Eliminator album. I would claim two, maybe 3 good songs on this album as opposed to Eliminator being solid, top to bottom.

Album pubblicato nel 1985 dal gruppo hard rock statunitense. I ZZ Top sono stati dagli anni 80 un punto di riferimento per questo genere. Questo disco mi era stato regalato in vinile ed io possedevo già quello precedente in formato CD. Da quando sono usciti i CD non sono più riuscito ad ascoltare i vinili e pertanto mi sono ripromesso di riacquistarlo in tale formato. Soltanto che in quei tempi i CD non uscivano in contemporanea con i vinili e questa mia promessa si è realizzata soltanto ora.
Il disco è in formato originale, senza alcuna rimasterizzazione, per fortuna.
Il CD, come tutti allora, è registrato ad un volume molto basso, e finalmente oggi qualcuno si è accorto che registrando i dischi ad un volume non eccessivo si può ottenere una migliore riproduzione.
Quindi alzate il volume ed ascoltatevi questo straordinario album, e vedete se riuscite a stare fermi sul divano. Da segnalare, tra i 10 brani la stupenda ballata "Rough boy".
