Ministry's followup to The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste makes use of the same aggressive approach but sinks to a darker and fiercer level. Chokehold opener "N.W.O." uses tape loops of then-President Bush calling for a "New World Order," which Ministry delivers by infusing their industrial savvy with machine-gunned, thrash metal guitars, relentless beats, and vocals that run the gamut from deranged auctioneer of the damned ("Jesus Built My Hotrod") to terrifying screams ("Just One Fix"). Fast and furious, Psalm 69 is an acidic taste of Ministry at their most focused and diabolical. --Erin Amar

This album is the type that is so direct and truthful that it scares you. It certainly scared me as a teenager. It felt subversive it was subversive. I felt naughty in a good way while listening to it but didnt fully appreciate the album at the time despite knowing it was good. After all this album existed and competed in a world of U2 and REM and the beginning of whine rock. How could this be a representation of the truth certainly I would much rather live in the fuzzy world of REM or U2?
Yet today without question here we are in Ministry world. They saw what was in us and spat it back at us in all the glory that is Psalm 69. Some of their songs feel almost prophetic in todays world yes 'Hero' I'm talking to you. Far from being the drugged out losers many people believed them to be these guys were practicing their craft until their songs were as precise as a Swiss watch in marathon practice sessions. You can hear that precision on this album if you have ears for such things. Rammstein certainly would not have existed without Ministry and for that we can all say 'Danke' to Ministry.
The seminal album of the 1990's that blazed the trail for everyone of any note after them just like Sabbath did in the 70's. Forgive Ministry their sins, all hail Ministry godfathers of the modern age!

This album holds a certain nostalgic spot in my heart, because it was released in the first few years of the 90's. I was in high school, and the industrial music boom was sweeping the world. Nine inch nails had become a household name, even though this was the era of grunge. It seemed as though every band tried their hand at industrial/electronic. But noone did it quite as well as ministry, and this album is a masterpeice of it's time. Ministry creates hard driving songs that are clearly metal, yet rythmic and catchy. "Scarecrows" has a haunted feel that will stay with you long after the song is over. "Tv 2" is a frantic guitarwork and rolls at a n insane pace. "Psalm 69" is clearly the gem on this album, although not one song is filler material. There has not been a darker, more potent, or more technically precise album from ministry than this one. If you haven't heard this one, you are missing out.

I remember when this cd was released and saw the video ''jesus built my hotrod'' on MTV. they used to play music and videos on that channel back in the day,not like the abomination it has become now. this cd has some thrash on it and my wife even likes it,so how bad can it be ?

This album is amazing ! They really hit it hard here with the music & the drugs, making a wicked insane album. The band is super tight, there bass work in here is monumentally ferocious. The samples are on point, the guitar work is agressive and dirty. Buzzsaw riffs on NWO,Just 1 Fix,and the behemorh of bass & sludge induced Scarecrow. Psalm 69 the song is like an lsd trip. Tv II,Hero are hard hitting, monster hitting drums. The track Jesus Built My Hotrod is alright,it's a fast paced track with guest vox. The band is great. I have everything from With Sympathy,To the Waxtraz & Twitch, all the dubs & all the 12" & remixez up to Beer to Eternity. Great album & everyone that likes heavy, druggy, angry, disturbing music check out this album. You must own !

If only Ministry still made albums this good! Relapse is going back in the right direction but they have lost their unique sound, in favour of a more predictable heavy metal sound, with fewer industrial flourishes now.

This album was named after a verse in Crowley's "Book of Lies" but Al (as opposed to AL) shows little sign that he understood any of the subtle humour of that text, just as his understanding of politics is embarrassingly shallow (who needs 3 albums telling us Bush was a liar and an idiot from someone who can't even see that Obama;s policies a re little different?). I suppose Leary must have introduced Al to AL.

Still.. this "The Mind is terrible Thing to Taste" and "The Dark Side of the Spoon" were about the height of industrial metal and somehow Al created am impressive sound, which he can't recapture himself even now.

I bought this album upon the recommendation of a friend. I was not a fan of Ministry, but am being converted rapidly to one. This is the first album of theirs I purchased, and will be purchasing more in the future.

I bought the album so I could have it "autoripped" to my amazon cloud, and that took approximately 72 hours, which was irritating, but not a big deal.
