From the brand

From the manufacturer

Founded by Bruce Pavitt and Jonathan Poneman in 1988, Sub Pop Records is a medium-sized independent record label based in Seattle, WA. With early releases by Nirvana, Mudhoney, Soundgarden, and TAD, the label is often associated with something called “the grunge movement.” Exploitation of this association has frequently proven financially fruitful.

At Sub Pop Records, it is our intent to market and sell the recorded music (and related merchandise) of artists whose music some shifting definition of “we” really and truly love. We mean to represent these artists as faithfully and diligently as possible and hold out hope that this is enough for us to remain solvent in the face of the well-documented collapse of the music industry at large. We also enjoy laughter, good times and the company of friends.

Editorial Reviews

In 2008 both Sub Pop and Mudhoney are celebrating their 20th anniversary. This is the deluxe, re-mastered edition of "Superfuzz Bigmuff", containing the original EP in its correct running order, singles, demos, and two blistering live recordings from 1988, all re-mastered, or in some cases, mastered for the first time. "...for all the play and worldwide attention several Seattle-area bands got during the 1988-92 period, at the end of the day...there was Mudhoney - and then there was everybody else...These recordings were so life-affirming upon their release, connecting everything great about the sixties (biker movies, fuzz boxes, old guitars, three-minute songs) with the frothing, punk rock of the early 80s, that a whole new 'style' of music was born. They called it grunge, but to me it was amped-up, clear-the-room, ramalama rock...and it was about as joyous and as fun a noise as anyone'd heard in years" - Jay Hinman, liner notes.

Love the color! Kinda like Crayola mac n cheese. Sounds great!

It really is a shame that these guys never got the credit, fame, and fortune they deserved. But I guess if they did, they wouldn't be around still (speaking of that, Mudhoney and Pearl Jam are the only Seattle grunge bands from the late 80s/early 90s era that I know of who have never broken up, please correct me if I'm wrong). This is their earliest recorded material, and it is nothing short of great! The songs may be remastered, but it still sounds raw, messy and badass. The second disc compiles live songs they played in Germany and on a California radio station. Sure, there are repetitions, but who cares? If you don't want to hear it, skip it. The dirty-sounding guitars, the manic-drunk-man vocals, the psycho hyperactive drumming, what's not to love? If this doesn't at least make you smile, then you have no sense of musical humor. The photographs of the band on stage perfectly sum up visually what their music is all about. Don't understand what that means? Just take a listen.

The band that inspired most of the alt punk grunge bands in the early 90s and late 80s that you never heard of. Had a punk buddy that had me listening to these guys around 1990. Never stopped. If you think they sound like nirvana, Pearl Jam, sound garden or other punk alt grunge bands. Mud honey probably did it first. The above mentioned bands sound like Mud honey. If you do not own their work get the March to Fuzz compilation released awhile back. Has most of their better stuff on it. Also, the live BBC album is awesome. Someone stole my old vinyl singles and albums from shows, so sad but these new releases are great replacements.

The album itself is great. Be careful when ordering, though. As an earlier review pointed out, there are only 6 songs on the vinyl version, not 12 (as listed). I've pointed this out to Amazon; let's see if the album info gets updated...

Damn this sounds proper on cassette. Praise be to Sub Pop for their recent run of tape re-releases.

This is one of the best rock Ep's ever! Totally awesome, ever more when you compare it with the first album... This is so much better. From the first tune to the very last, this pavement colored vinyl is a must for sloopy die hard grunge fans. Two thumbs up! Go get it!

Mudhoney. Part of grunge's foundational generation and great music.

This lp is awesome, the riffs, the lyrics, every song is killer! Must have if you are into loud garage rock.

This is an ep release, the listing is incorrect.
