Editorial Reviews

Elbow's 9th studio album, Flying Dream 1, is out December 17th on vinyl. The band wrote the record remotely in their home studios before coming together at the empty Brighton Theatre Royal to perfect, perform, and record the songs. Features Craig Potter on production, Alex Reeves on drums, Sarah Fields on clarinet/saxophone, and London Contemporary Voices' Wilson Atie, Adeleye Omotayo and Marit Rokeberg as backing vocalists, and long-time collaborator Jesca Hoop. Gatefold Jacket, 180-gram LP.

This album reminds me of Guy Garvey‘s solo albums, but in my opinion, even better. Multidimensional a little jazzy and Blue. And definitely mellow. Not just mellow, but simply beautiful. Chris’ Keyboard playing really comes to the fore in some songs

As I write this we are in the midst of the latest and largest Covid surge. The quiet and patient pace of this music seems to be just what I need right now. For a band that's known for their huge anthemic, stadium sing-a-longs, this seems to be a daring and radical departure and I'm sure it will leave some fans wanting but I've no doubt those folks will be in the minority. This is also one of Elbow's best sounding recordings as well. Listening to the CD on a good system reveals tons of detail, especially in Guy's vocals.
This is my favorite new release of 2021 and I can't recommend it highly enough.

If you are an Elbow fan and listen to this 3 times and don't love it, then say it sucks. Puts me in a good place!

My husband loved this record. So much fun to look at the liner notes like we used to do.
Came safely packaged as well.

I've gotten exhausted of the "quarantine album" - a stripped down album created in solitude that's turned many great artists into the least interesting versions of themselves. Elbow are in a unique position, however, where melancholy and subdued is already in their nature. Flying Dream 1 is completely retrospective, with both the album title and many song titles referencing their past work. There are some lovely songs here, like "Six Words", which steadily builds into an exquisite string arrangement. It also has some whiffs, like the clunky "Is It a Bird?", which, yes, actually does follow that lyric with "Is it a plane?" The whole thing sounds like one of the band's Youtube radio sessions, which never sounds bad, but could use more moments like its bombastic closer, "What Am I Without You?"

Conheci o Elbow por acaso, e esse disco foi amor a primeira ouvida! Músicas bem trabalhadas e muito tranquilas, para ouvir de manhã ou num happy hour regado a whisky do bom! Veio muito bem embalado e chegou super rápido! Perfeito! 5 stars !

Just a lovely album to listen to for a calm evening at home. And for some reason, we have a lot of those during 2021-2022.

Disco bellissimo sia per i fortunati già appassionati degli Elbow sia per chi vi si accosta per la prima volta. Tra i migliori della loro produzione.
