Other than that, the three songs I heard before the warp, sounded pretty good.
Well, the NEW Replacement CD has arrived and the packers used a smaller, better designed paper envelope that didn't allow the CD to get bent and all the songs sound good.
Yes, they do sound like a Led Zeppelin imitation band doing their own music. I heard a Dodge Ram commercial and I said "that sounds like Greta Van Fleet!" and found they used "For Every Season" which tells me Van Fleet DOES have their OWN music style now.
The music on this CD "Starcatcher" is heading them in a mystical transition in the realms of "Houses of the Holy" (by Zeppelin). They put some nice acoustic numbers on this "Waited All Your Life" and "Meet the Master" Other songs "Sacred the Thread" is like "Misty Mountain Stop" and Jake Kiszka (Guitarist) has done a great job on lead.
Keep on keeping on!
Fate of the Faithful is the starting track. I hear Heart! 4/5
Waited all your life is just okay. Doesn't do much for me. 3/5
The Falling Sky is a soulful rocker. Again, I'm reminded of Heart and the power of Anne Wilson's voice. 4/5
Sacred the Thread was a journey of a track. 4/5
Runaway Blues was a wild runaway, but at only a little over a minute long, I was hoping for a longer jam. They've yet to really get into some of the longer grooves you'd see at their live show. This one cuts out just as it gets into some good guitar solos. I don't understand. 1/5
Indigo Streak is just okay, kind of a dud filler track for me. 3/5
Frozen Light brings me back in. 4/5
The Archer is right up my alley. It has the ups and downs in tempo from hard chords & screams to light acoustic finish. 5/5
Meeting the Master was an epic success too. 5/5
Farewell for Now was just an okay finish. Not the best song to close on. 3/5
Again, like their previous work, I like most of it all very much. It blows me away to listen to a full album like this today, but there aren't any standout tracks that I feel I really really love. Maybe some will grow on me.
This band confuses me. I love listening to them, yet I'm not really in love with most of their individual songs. They just don't stick with me. Broken Bells is one I love & maybe the only one that lingers for me. A few others are really great on the first three albums, but most of their tracks don't sink into my memory and haunt me like great songs should do. I don't know why, but I think I'm waiting with high expectations for the big one from them.
I think what these young lads need is a new producer. I know Cobb is a big name, but he just wasn't right for them. GVF needs someone who knows rock music & will push these guys to the limits of new exploration. Where are the eight minute jam outs? The ten minute psychedelic epics? Or the four minute singles. Mix it up. Go somewhere new. They have it in them, but it needs to be tapped.
