Original, thought provoking time travel sci fi at it's best.

I liked this movie very much. I usually watch horror movies but this one grabbed and kept my attention all the way thru. A great storyline, too.

I like how dark the film gets. It's very contemplative, I recommend it to anyone who doesn't find timey-wimey stuff exhausting.

The story could have carried the movie, and the actors were good. But it was difficult to watch based on wild and crazy kids who video themselves building and using a time machine without considering the implications of it. One kid is supposed to be brilliant. The rapid fire dialog made me turn on captions to keep up. They built it with all the forethought of a blind taxi driver racing to LaGuardia. Better as animation I think, so ten year olds could get excited.

This movie has a nuance surrounding time travel theory. Movies like the "Butterfly Effect", "Hot Tub Time Machine", "The sound of thunder" and others have elements that all have a plausible essence, but this movie aligned with more of the theories I research. I am biased because I must admit I'm a BIG GEEK and study time theory & relativity and most movies leave me with "they got that wrong" feeling. This movie created feelings that the movie finally got it right! Not giving the movie away or telling to much about it, if you time travel and leave something behind it would appear in the future and then more than one "element with the same mass" would exist in the same time and place , thus a "time loop" is created and after the first time "time manipulation" occurs nothing can be "undone fully" not matter the attempt to make something never occur, even the time traveling, it exist forever after the initial time traveling episode if placed in a singular time line. From a geek stand point this was awesome!!! On an entertainment, comical, and drama aspect I would give it a five also. Love is a powerful thing, the need for acceptance and a second chance to alter your future can drive you to lunacy, or attempt to sacrifice your happiness for something that shouldn't be, because if it was meant to happen it would have happened. This movie made me think about my life, my kids lives, and the entire world in a sense, we are all connected, and the love for one thing and change future or destroy it.
Overall, this movie had all the elements I wanted it to have, but I hated the filmography. The "first person" camera holding is getting a bit played out. I additionally am a movie buff, and my interest span all genres, and the need for an old fashion well shot and directed movie is what I yearn for. I felt this movie would have had a more "artistic" element had it been shot in a more "fantasy" method of filmography. Movies like "Legend", "The Howling", "Krull", and the first "Troll" movie had a look and feel of a fantasy adventure. Time travel is a fantasy element, although some of the technological advances are making it close to possible. While it still for the most part is still something we can only theorize & dream about, I would love to see a full feature film with a fantasy feel that invokes emotions by the look of the movie. Something that takes your mind to a place during the movie sparked by the essence of the movie moving your soul. This movie had the plot to satisfy this quota, but the single person shot distracted from the true story line in my opinion.
All together it something a family could watch on movie night, and regardless of the "cell phone/camcorder feel it's still a great movie"!

I watched the preview clip a few weeks before watching the full movie, but even so, I was not fully prepared for all the wonderful things, big and small, that this movie contains. If you like movies like Coherence and Ex Machina, chances are good you'll like this one too! In particular, some of the suspenseful scenes in this movie gave that same "omg, wtf have we done" vibes as in Coherence.
If you don't like shaky cam movies, you might be displeased with this one, as it's pretty much the entire movie from start to finish. I thought they did a pretty good job with believability - I give the writers props for basically providing a good in-story reason why there should be a camera on at all times, and at one point in the film, the writers even poke fun at themselves for shooting the movie in this way through something one of the characters say (almost had a 4th wall kind of vibe, without breaking suspension of disbelief).
Music was minimal, but when featured, used to powerful effect, like steady, pulsing thumps to emphasize tension during some scenes. I thought the acting was very decent overall, with good-natured, flawed and likable characters (i.e. believable), and it certainly helps that the script was realistically-written; except for a few instances, I could really see my younger self and my friends basically living out these roles (if this stuff ever happened to me IRL... except, how would I know it didn't... *gasp*)
Overall, the movie is very simple, there's minimal violence and blood and a little swearing but it's very well-used and when it happens, helping to immerse you deeper into the greater story, and it's visually crisp and efficient. Combined with the sound and (minimal) music, it makes for quite an atmospheric piece, emphasizing mystery, profound wonder, and a little tension and horror at times. Perfect!

I didn't like how the movie was filmed/told through the eyes of a home video camera with a member of the cast filming it however despite that fact I found this to be a very impressive time travel movie. There are many time travel movies out there that I have found to be disappointing. This time travel movie will not disappoint you.
The research that must have went into the time travel script must have been staggering. Most of the popularly theorized mechanics of time travel seemed to be in this movie like paradoxes, entropic cascade failure, and even elements of the butterfly effect (another underrated classic by the way). And the way the science behind it all and the way it was presented definitely worked for this movie.
I felt the acting was pretty good also. Definitely a movie I'll probably watch again every couple of years or so. I highly recommend it.

This sci-fi movie focuses upon a small group of teenagers in their late teens, one of whom discovers the blueprints for a time machine in a secret vault hidden within his father's basement. Together they build a time machine and embark upon a series of low key adventures within their own past. Initially, everything goes their own way and they have a lot of fun. But, it is not long before they realise the dangers of opening pandora's box as things start to go awry.
The film is interesting to watch, after all, who hasn't wished they could change the mistakes of their past or win the lottery, something which the characters end up doing. The film is shot entirely by the teenagers, as if they are recording their every exploit, which at times seems a bit daft, but overall the film is enjoyable to watch and makes you wonder... if only!
